All You Need is Love

Love and a little junk that is!  This is a quick project--simply find some extra junk to spell out LOVE!
The L is an old chair spindle, the O a baby doll buggy wheel.
The V is an unidentified metal piece.
I used some pieces from a child's wood tool set for the E.
The longest part of this project is the time it takes to find what junk you will use.  I will be making a few more to put on etsy.
I am linking up at Green Willow Pond and Funky Junk interiors.

Chunky Monkey Coffee Table

This chunky coffee table was inspired by one I saw on Pinterest that was originally from HGTV, I believe. When a friend was generous enough to give me some barnwood, I knew this table was in there.
As I have said before, I have pulled some square nails from this wood, so it is old.  This table was simple construction. You know I love paint, but not for this purdy wood.
Some good sanding, Early American stain, and wipe on poly was all it took to beautify this baby.
I love the storage shelf--big enough for blankets and books and magazines.
This piece would also make a good TV console, with storage for DVR's, etc. underneath.

From Thrift Store Dud to Painted Stud

Ok, well I really think of this piece as a she, but stud rhymes with dud.  I almost left this piece at the thrift store, I wasn't sure about the sides and the height (26 inches, a little shorter than a typical sofa table).  But another customer talked me into it and it was half price day.
I wasn't sure which color to paint this piece.  It was going to go cream--old ochre to be exact, because let's face it, it is neutral and sells.  But I needed some color so I went with Aubosson Blue and Old Ochre.  I am loving this blue, sort of a teal, but reminds me of a rich denim color.

I used dark wax,

a dud no longer.

I waited to get pictures in daylight and then had all these shadows going--lighting, hmphhh--my least favorite part of photography.  Find more fun things at Funky Junk Interiors!

Reviving in Vegas

I just returned from a short, fun girl's trip to Vegas to celebrate my sister's 50th.  I looked for inspiration--I didn't really find any junky, shabby things, but the colors and lights, sounds, food, and fun were reviving.  Most of these pictures are phone photos--I didn't haul my big camera.
There was a Chinese New Year theme happening--beautiful displays!

Me and My OLDER Sister
The Girls
We chose Vegas to go to a Tim McGraw (my sister loves him!) and Faith Hill Concert--they were great!
The Bellagio Fountains
The View from the Stratosphere
It was a fun weekend, back to work and reality for this chica--no more sparkles...sigh.

I Couldn't Help Myself

As I mentioned in Tuesday's post, I had the itch to build, but the garage is too cold.  I am afraid I could not help myself and had to do a little building.  I made a few quick saw cuts and did the actual construction inside.  I started with this homemade dog dish holder that a friend gave me when they had to put their dog down :(.  I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it, but said thank you and took it.
And then, out of the blue I had the idea to use it for the base of a little bench or small table.  I took the dog dish hole part off and the pegboard under it off.  I added a board across the middle to sturdy it up.
A cupboard door (sort of a cupboard door) top

and some paint and dark wax,
was all it took to complete this simple project--itch scratched, aah!
