Colorful, Rustic Bench

Do you ever create something and just sigh...ah, yes, THIS is me, THIS is the one.  That is what happened when I made this bench.

It isn't all that different from my typical style, but the wood edge and legs really made the colors pop for me.

I started by cutting a bunch of painted pallet boards (PAINT TECHNIQUE HERE) the same length (12 inches maybe, I don't remember).

I joined them together with a pallet board running down the middle of them, screwing in from the underside.

I then cut reclaimed oak board to the length of the joined pallet boards, and 2 shorter pieces for the width.  I screwed this into the thicker pallet wood pieces.

I added 2x2 legs with a brace in between them--this makes for a more stable bench.

I used stain on all of it afterwards--in Provencial I believe.

Something about that rustic wood and those bright colors that speak to me.

  1. How did you attach the brace to the legs Becky! I'd love to try & replicate it. Not completely identical, but close.
