Make a Coat Tree from a Reclaimed Wood Fence Post

I have had making a coat stand or coat tree on "my list" for probably 8+ years.  You know, one of those things that you think, "I really should make a coat tree, it will be a good seller and easy."

use a reclaimed wood fence post to make a coat tree
After hubby brought home some 4" x 4" fence posts, I finally built one.

It was fairly simple construction.  I used nice, straight 2" x 4"s for the base.  I cut one 18" long and then two that were 7 1/4" inches long.

I used the Kreg Jig to attach the two shorter pieces to the longer board.  Braces cut at 45 degree angles secured the 4" x 4" fence post to the X base.  It is very sturdy.

Some good sanding brought out the wood's natural beauty.  4 hooks and a clear coat of polyacrylic finished the coat stand or tree.
