Devotional on Worrying Less
Happy Sunday! I must admit, this verse has never brought me much comfort. I have always seen it as telling me that there is SO much to worry about in each day that we can't fret over future problems. And it does say that, but I have been trying to see the positive message in it too. I have been working at actively trying to notice and appreciate the small joys in each day. I stop to notice all of the different wildflowers along the path, I pause to listen to people laugh, I appreciate the little kindnesses shared with me each day, I savor fresh food. We get so caught up in worrying about all of our problems that we forget to recognize the small delights in each day. But, when we do take the time to acknowledge the everyday wonders our worries seem smaller and we find more peace in each day.

Devotional on God Working For Us
Happy Sunday! I love the sunlight pouring into the lake in this photo. I didn't see the light when I took the picture, but noticed it when I later looked at the photo better. God works in our lives like this-- even when we cannot see it or feel it. God is FOR us, always! He is constantly working in our circumstances and he wants what is best for us. Trust and put your hope in knowing that God is pouring his love into us and always acting for our benefit.

Prepping Cabinets for Paint

Last week (or so..) I shared with you the before pictures of my cabinets (HERE).

I am happy to say that I am halfway done painting my kitchen cabinets.  It is going much more quickly than I would have guessed and I am thrilled with the results. But, before I show you the progress (that will be later this week), let's talk prep.

I know, there are chalk paints out there they say, absolutely no prep needed. In the words of Dwight Schrute, FALSE. I have seen all different brands of chalk paint chip, and scratch, and stain. If you want good adhesion that is going to last, you are going to need to do some type of prep work.

Devotional on the Power of Positive Thinking
Happy Sunday! What do you see in this picture? A pine branch, right? In the background of this photo there is a lake and a mountain and many more trees, but you don't see them because I focused on the branch. God knows that what we focus on, we will "see". He knows that directing our 10,000 daily thoughts to good and worthwhile things will positively impact our lives. What we put in (our thoughts), comes out (our actions and words). Proverbs 23:7 tells us that what we think in our hearts, we become. There is power in focusing on good and honorable things. This week, ask God to help you change negative thought patterns and practice thinking about those things that are excellent and worthy.

Thrift Store Chair Makeover with Fusion Mineral Paint

I have always had a thing for chairs. I am not sure why, but when I started redoing furniture 18 years ago, chairs were my primary makeover victims.

But, over the years I stopped buying chairs to re-sell because they are often wobbly and difficult to make sturdy and they are not quick to paint with all of their spindles. However, I still am always on the lookout for good chairs for my home and when the dear daughter spied this barrel back chair at the thrift store for $5.99, I was in. It is solid and in very good condition.

Sunday Verses

devotional on seeing the light in others and loving unconditionally
Happy Sunday! The other evening, while hiking a familiar trail at sunset, I turned around and saw amazing light glowing through a "hole" made by the trees over the trail. I have hiked this path countless times, but I have never noticed this view until I was looking at the light.  It is hard sometimes to see the good things in others because we aren't looking for the light. We focus on the negative flaws and see the familiar and the dark rather than loving fervently. When we look for the light in others, in seeing people through God's eyes, our perspectives change. This week challenge yourself to practice looking for the light in others, extending grace when necessary, and loving each other earnestly.

Painting Kitchen Cupboards

I am making the jump--the jump on to the painting my kitchen cupboards bandwagon.

I know, some of you are cringing right now, but hear me out. Our cupboards are stained cherry--they are NOT cherry wood, but cherry stain. They are too red and too formal and too not me.

Old Tin Glory

We (we, meaning my husband, who did the work) recently took some old, corrugated tin off the roof of a shed. I used some on a potting bench and a hall tree. I had a smaller, leftover piece.

Devotional on Getting Over It
Happy Sunday! Have you ever been told to, "Cry a river, build a bridge, and GET OVER IT!"? It is harsh advice, but there is truth and wisdom in it too. We all have something we need to "get over"--a relationship, a job situation, an injustice, or something WE did. God did not create us to live in the past. Dwelling on former things keeps us from being who we are meant to be. Getting on with life does not mean what was done to us was okay, but it does mean that we forgive and that we choose to enjoy and be present in the moment. We need to leave those things behind that prevent us from moving forward. Give it to God and let him help you get over it.
