Potting Bench Challenge

Ah, I survived my show and had a fun day of selling, seeing friends, chatting, and finally relaxing. As part of this show, Junk Fest, the show organizers gave 6 of us junkers an old cast iron sink and challenged us to make a potting bench with it.  Here is what I came up with:

Very me, I know, which it should be, right?

I thought I was going all out, but holy shmoly--mine was small and simple compared to the others.  I didn't win, but my bench sold early in the day and I was happy about that.  Of course, I had to use my brightly colored reclaimed wood.

I added a drawer for potting soil.

The drawer pull is a brass sprinkler fitting.

I included small shelves on the upper back board. One is perfect for a hoe head twine holder,

and one for some soap and a scrub brush.

And what potting bench doesn't need a bottle opener in case you need something cool to drink after that hard work?

A trowel towel holder,

rusty nails for tool hooks,

and a clipboard chalkboard are some of the other details I included (Yes, tomatoes is spelled wrong, I fixed it!).

The sink works--hubby helped with the plumbing.  You hook it up to a hose--I made sure to make a tall faucet for watering cans. The sink has a drain hose out the back.

This bench would make an awesome outdoor buffet too!

So while it wasn't the winner, I was glad I stayed true to my style and I am happy it has a new home.

  7. Love it and yes, it is you! I saw something like this...not near as cute at a recent glamping trip and was planning on making one and I love your version. I have an old sink so will adapt some of your ideas to mine, if it's ok??? I want it here when my friends come camping in the fall.
