Chippy Thrift Store Wood Crate

When I find something I love at the thrift store and can instantly think of three or four ways to use it, it typically is a no-brainer when it comes to deciding if I should buy it or not. AND, when the item has a lovely chippy finish in my preferred accent color (blue) and it is only$6, then it becomes a heck YES! Such was the case with this wood crate or box.

My instant ideas for it were a shelf in my laundry room where the deep size wouldn't be in the way over the dryer, a box or crate for blankets in the TV room, an ottoman with a little cushion added to the top, and a side table. Today, it is being used as the latter, a perfect side table in my TV room.

I used Wise Owl Furniture Salve on the chippy crate to revive the wood and bring out the blue paint color. I do not sell this or rep this product, but I do love it. It brings out the beauty in all wood and is super safe and can even be used on beards and staches. And, it smells divine. My favorite scents are lemon verbena (smells like Fruit Loops) and Riotous Rain that has a masculine smell. If you can't find it locally, you can get it from my friend's ETSY SHOP HERE. Apply it with a natural bristle brush or a rag.

The salve makes dry, old wood pieces come to life.

This crate side table fits great in a little corner in my TV room. I have a sectional and sometimes need an extra side table when guests are over. This chippy crate table will work perfectly--it is lightweight and small and easy to move in front of the sectional when needed.

This space is in the window alcove I have shared in the past few months. The yarn spinner light and the barnwood for the shelf above the window both came from the same thrift store. My dog is protecting me from the UPS guy in this photo.

The crate side table will probably end up out on my back, covered porch this summer, but it is too cold to use it there now.

I love pieces that have multiple uses and places where they can be used and this blue box is one of those. Before you buy, ask yourself: Where or how will I use this? Can I think of more than one place to use this? Does it fit my style? Can I fix it, revive it, change it? Is it a heck ya (Because according to my daughter, if it isn't a heck ya, it is a heck no--no wishy-washy maybes!)?

  1. So cool. $6 is a good deal. So much overpriced stuff at our thrift stores here in Washington. Did it already have the legs on it or did you add them?
