Thrifty Thursday Wall Pocket

Thrift Store Finds and Upcycling

I have been looking at this homemade letter holder/desk organizer (?) at the thrift store for a few weeks. When it went to half price, I decided to get it.

I had a few ideas for it: plant in the skinny pocket, use it in the kitchen for wooden spoons, or use it on our desk to hold paper. But, I decided I wanted it on the wall in my entry between our TV room door and coat closet.

I added a map from a 1946 Atlas of our new state, Idaho. I like that this map has both our new town in idaho on it and our old hometown in Montana. I just adhered the map with a glue stick, incase I want to change it up in the future.

I cleaned up the wood and aged the map a bit more with Wise Owl Furniture Salve. You can get it from my friend Tina HERE

Command Adhesive made easy work of hanging the wall pocket. I wasn't sure what I wanted to put in it--being close to the front door, it would work for mail. I also thought about adding nature--favorite sticks, etc. For now I decided to use it to hold a few favorite old books.

I purchased The Courtship of Birds for 30 cents at the thrift store. It is from 1977 and has beautiful illustrations in it.

Breeze of Spring is from the late 1800's and I picked it up for $1 at a garage sale. It too has lovely pictures.

This quick project help break up my white walls and doors and adds a touch of vintage and warm wood and is useful.

Remember--if you can think of lots of uses for a thrift store item, your probably should buy it.
