All you need is some scrap wood cut to various lengths (8-12 inches work well). Cut as many pieces as you need for hooks, i.e. if you want 5 hooks cut 5 pieces of wood. You can put skinnier pieces of wood in between to space the hooks out more, but I did not on this one.
Attach the boards to each other with a piece of wood screwed into the the back. Add heavy duty D rings for hanging.
I painted the boards in green and red, stencilled the MERRY and hand wrote the Christmas.
Screw white hooks to the bottom of each board and you have a fun coat hook perfect for any stocking.
That is SO cute, Becky! I'm working on a stocking hanging rack right now too, since we don't have a mantel and no great place to hang ours. I absolutely love yours!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Smart idea!
ReplyDeleteSo very cute and the perfect solution for someone with out a mantle! Love it!
ReplyDeleteAdd another hook so you can hang one for Bliss.
ReplyDeleteHow did you distress the paint? It looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteBecky,
DeleteHow did you grt the paint results. Distressed???????? Beautiful but does not explain in tutorial how to get this look? Thanks in advance for your response!
When I distress I paint, let it dry then use a sander. You can do many colors or layers to create depth
DeleteInteresting idea for Christmas Decorations Thanks for sharing this wonderful work of yours
ReplyDeleteI love this Becky! Thanks for sharing and blessings to you, Patti
ReplyDeleteI love this and need to make similar for my house , we have no mantel , perfect solution. and a great way to display the stockings I am making xoxo
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me how you painted it to look rustic like that?
ReplyDeleteWhat did you use to paint the word Christmas so smoothly?
ReplyDeleteI have tried reverse vinyl- FAIL it was too small to read
I have tried outlining and filling it in with paint marker- FAIL it doesn't come out smooth like a pen and looks very choppy
Getting frustrated! I've never painted a sign and want to figure this out!
ANYONE PLEASE ADVISE....
Have you tried acrylic paint and a small artist paint brush? You could lightly use a pencil to mark the words and then trace over the paint with a liner brush. When that is dry, fill in the letters with paint using the small brush. Hope this works for you! I use this technique often usually with great results.
DeleteBecky,
ReplyDeleteI just LOVE this sign and my hubby and I are making one this weekend! I will be posting it on my blog and will give a link back to yours giving you credit for the idea. So darn cute and I found you on Pinterest.
Hugs, Lynnie
Oh wow...Thank you! I have a large family and have made stockings for us all...16 stockings and more to follow makes the mantel look cluttered and pretty heavy. I'm so grateful for this idea! Can't wait to make one! Whoohoo!
