Pantry Door--Checkin' It Off The List

Back in December I listed a dozen projects that I wanted to complete in 2015.  I actually got a jump start on it and got this one done after Christmas, but am just getting around to showing it off now: THE PAINTED PANTRY DOOR!

I gave it a light hand sanding and then used some interior latex in a semi gloss on it.  I used chalkboard paint on the upper door inset.  If I had wee ones still I would have painted the lower inset as well, but I am not bending over or squatting to write on it so I left it blue.  I did give the blue paint a light distressing so some of the original white shows through around the door inset edges.

And what do we write on the chalkboard?  I am now keeping a weekly menu, which the family loves and so do I--helps me to plan it out, get the groceries I need, plan which days we won't be home because of sports.  And we keep a grocery and Costco list.  In the past the family told me things throughout the week that we needed and I supposedly kept a running list in my head.  This is so much better: they write it on the list and then I transfer it to a post-it before I head out shopping.  No more forgotten items--yay!

The pop of color and added organization from having a chalkboard in a convenient location is a perfect and easy kitchen update.  And, that fact that project number one is checked off the list is even better!

  3. Hi Becky,
I just love your colorful & practical pantry door (my favorite color too!). Yesterday I visited a neighbor who is re-doing her home and she had just taped off her pantry door to do something similar. I can't wait to send her the link to your post. When she finishes, I'll try to remember to send a photo to you. Great minds must really think alike!

  4. I love your pantry door. I did something similar on my pantry cabinet. I love making my list on the chalkboard. Just before I leave home, I take a photo of my list, with my iPhone, so I have my list on the go. Just saves rewriting to postit notes. :). I'm lazy like that. Haha

  6. I love this......I too made our pantry door into a chalk board and my weekly art kids will leave random messages for us. When the grands come from out of town to visit they too will write all over it and i can't bear to erase their drawings or messages.

  7. I love the pantry door chalkboard idea! Just the other day my hubby was saying I needed to make a chalkboard for the kitchen to keep notes etc. I don't like my pantry door (it's a door with the slants like shutters, but a door) I wonder if I could talk him into replacing it, then put a chalkboard on it. Then I could use the shutter door in another project ;-D Thanks for sharing your wonderful project.
