Welcome to the 2nd Project Challenge--bloggers joining together and creating something new and wonderful from a similar item.

This month's challenge item was an under $5 thrift store or garage sale item. I started with a set of candlesticks that I got for $4 on half price day and transformed them with paint.

5 Decorating Ideas From a Store Merchandiser

So, you may or may not know that I work at an antique place called The Antique Barn.  I started in the back room, painting and sanding, repairing and fixing furniture.  I have taught Annie Sloan Paint Workshops there and I have worked behind the counter in customer service.

But, after having to limit my time on my feet when I developed plantar fasciitis (which is slowly getting better), I settled on my favorite roll at The Antique Barn--store fluffer or merchandiser, if you will.

Spring Ideas, Are You Ready?

Spring?  I know, for half of the country that seems like a distant memory, a fantasy that will never happen, less likely to occur than the chance of winning the mega millions lottery.

Barn Wood Coffee Table and "The Change"

What do you do when life (or a good friend) gives you barn wood?  You build.  Earlier in the week I did so much building in one day that I had a blister on my hand from the drill. One item I put together was this coffee table/bench.

End Table or What to Do With an Ugly Table Your Hubby Brings Home

Ah husbands, they can be so helpful, right?  Mine is a great supporter of what I do.  He helps provide some muscle when I need it, he brings home pallets and other reclaimed wood, and sometimes he drags home furniture for me.

And sometimes it is decent, but he has the style sense of well, of someone who has no style.  And sometimes what he drags home is less than desirable.  Such was the case with this little end table.

He is a high school principal and as such he attends a lot of events, one being an auction for the choir group.  This was the first year they had an auction and I think they used garage sale type items for the auction.  He sent me several pictures of things that I said a BIG FAT NO to.  Finally he quit sending me pictures and apparently made the decision on his own to bid $1 on this end table.  He won it.

Coffee Culture

Coffee? Yes? No?

I was not a coffee drinker until maybe three or four years ago.  I tried it in college...with No Doze...because that's what the other kids were doing to stay awake to study.

I got sick and decided I was NOT a coffee drinker.

I remember the first time I heard the word latte.  My hubby and I were newlyweds in the late eighties and were visiting one of my best friends in, can you guess where?

Yes, Seattle.  No, it is not the birthplace of coffee or even the latte, but for many of us it is the place we think of when we think of coffee. And, oh how I made fun of the word latte--it sounded so fancy.

I do believe I tried a latte on that trip and still wasn't sold I needed to be a coffee drinker.

But, decades later, a cajillion cute coffee spots later, coupled with friends who want to meet for coffee and I am a coffee drinker.

Not black, not daily (although almost!), but a coffee drinker.  And I love the "coffee culture". Hip coffee shops, cute mugs, gadgets and gizmos to make it taste better, coffee stations in our homes and coffee signs.

Scarf Hanger in 30 Minutes or Less

Did you take the Heap of Change Challenge last month (see HERE)?  I am continuing to work on my closets and other areas of the house and today I decided to started clearing some things out of my closet.

I knew my scarves needed thinning out and a BETTER way to hang them.  So in about 30 minutes of work time (plus some dry time) I had a new scarf system.

Trunk Transformation--Saving an Old Trunk With Paint

I have a furniture fairy.  Yes, my own personal fairy who silently and secretly leaves furniture on my front porch.  The latest gift?  This dilapidated trunk.
