Reclaimed Wood Sofa Table

So, when you have a college student who is an architecture student and who is poor and needs money, what does he do?

Over the Christmas break he builds a fantastic table to sell in mom's booth.

Sofa table made with four different types of reclaimed wood

And he builds it with great detail that he enjoys meticulously working on.  He used four different types of reclaimed wood.

He used old fence boards ripped down to make the mountains because he liked the dark color of the wood.

He filled in the rest of the background with lath from our 1931 schoolhouse.

The apron of the table was made with pallet wood from a large, 12 foot pallet.

The legs and the bottom shelf are made from barn wood. I love the live edge on the bottom shelf of the sofa table.

To tie the different types of reclaimed wood together on the bottom part of the table, he used Minwax stain in a dark walnut. On the top he applied a couple different colors of Minwax stain on the mountains and a golden oak on the lath.

A few coats of clear polyacrylic by Minwax finished this piece.

Mom is proud, he did a great job and hopefully it will sell quickly and he will have some money in his pocket soon.

    1. Awww, thanks Kathy! I always tried to encourage creativity in my kids. They definitely got their dad'd math genes, so it is fun to see this side coming out too!

  6. I don't know that I would be able to sell it! I think I would just have to give him the money and keep it for myself. He obviously takes after mom and some lucky girl will one day get an awfully handy guy.
