Chippy, shabby, shutter shelf--say that three times fast! I have been holding onto this dilapidated shutter for a bit now--I finally decided to use it or lose it!
The shutter was close to completely falling apart. I glued it and added screws in the four corners on the edge. I then added a 3" wide board to the top for a little shelf.
BIG coat hooks were added to the bottom edge.
I dry-brushed some white paint on the shelf board and hooks and then gave the shutter shelf a few good clear coats to keep that lovely chippy paint.
I also hand-painted a little nest sign on a chippy end piece of a board I had used on another project. The nest gets a little lost in the chippy white paint, but I kind of like that.
This shelf would be great in an entry, a bathroom, or in the kitchen to hang up aprons and towels.
I love making things with shutters. I have a shutter island in my kitchen that you inspired me to make. I have to say though, that bird nest painting is my favorite. I love birds & that bird nest painting is just the sweetest painting ever!
ReplyDeleteThank you Deb! I love shutters too, but don't fins them very often anymore, at least not wood ones.
