Thrifty Thursday Guest Room Vignette

My guest room is, well, a hodge podge of leftovers. AND, it has pink carpeting that we would love to tear out. But, until then, I have tried to embrace the pink by decorating with grey and white and few green and pink touches. I decided the room needed a more homey touch. I decided to start with some vignettes for the dresser and night stand.

I scoped out vignettes on Pinterest and with a few pins in mind, I set out to the local thrift store. I found so many good things! These are just a few of them:

I put some of these, and a few more things purchased previously at the thrift store, to create a cute, farmhouse vignette on the top of the dresser in the spare room.

This vignette from The Endearing Home was my starting point.

I had a stool I purchased for $2. It was white, but I wanted some color (grey is a color, right?), so I painted it. I liked the streaking, weathered look on the inspiration stool, so I sanded it by hand with some coarse sandpaper.

Behind the stool, I placed both a old, vintage chalkboard and a nice, wood framed mirror. In looking at the pictures, I think I will hang the mirror, rather than propping it.

Instead of a wreath, I used a round frame from the thrift store that I hung from a piece of sheer ribbon taped to the back of the chalkboard.

I added some colored glass bottles and a teacup and saucer with a candle in it. I purchased on complete place setting of this vintage, 1978 Greenbrier rhododendron china. I love it and the teacup may be replaced to keep the set together, and so it can better be seen.

The dark green bottle vase on the side got some white berries I had, as did the pink small glass container.

My inspiration vignette had a linen in it. I couldn't find a good one today at the thrift store, but then I remembered that I bought three vintage tablecloths at the thrift store the week before. One of them was perfect--it is hard to see, but has light green and pink on it. I folded it up and placed it diagonally across the dresser.

I  can't wait to use and share my other finds. Knowing what I was looking for in general BEFORE I went to the thrift store, sure helped me to focus and find great things. Here is what I spent (many items were half price):

stool                                  $2
3 glass bottles                   $3
vintage tablecloth              $3.50
chalkboard                         $1
vintage dishes                    $3
round frame                       $1.50
mirror                                 $3

Total:                                  $17

Can I get a woohoo?!!

  1. I love to go thrift store shopping! I like your idea of having something General in mind before you go and that helps you to focus when you're there.😀
