Rustic Farmhouse Jelly Cupboard

Sometimes (okay, often times) I have no idea what I am building. And let me tell you, this drives my hubby crazy. But, it seems to work out okay for me. And, with extra time at home, I have plenty of time to play. So, when I put together some pallet wood to make a little barn style door, I had no idea what I was going to do with it.

I could have painted it and used it for porch decor or on a mantle. I could have turned it on its side, added hooks and a shelf for a cute entry piece. It would make a cute headboard for a twin bed. But, I finally decided to use it as a door, building a cupboard "around" it.

I built two frames from pallet 2" x 4"s with inside dimensions that fit the pallet wood barn door.

I connected the two frames with 2" x 4" pieces at the top and bottom,( affiliate link) using a kreg jig (you can get one HERE).

I created a back piece for the cupboard, using the same pallet wood I used for the barn door. I joined the boards together with a brace at the top and bottom. I then screwed this brace into the top and bottom 2" x 4" joining the frames in the back.

I painted and stained the wood before adding the tin.

I got too into my building and forgot to take any more process pictures. I added the corrugated tin (cut with THIS tool) to the inside, screwing it to the wood.

I then used reclaimed barnwood for the top of the shelf, leaving a little overhang for looks. I attached the door with strap hinges and added a metal handle. I will probably add a magnetic cupboard closure when I can get one.

Inside brackets and shelves were added.

This piece stands about 54" tall. It would make a great extra pantry space. It would also be perfect for extra blankets, games, toiletries. I love the rustic, farmhouse feel and the extra storage it can add to a space.
