Bedside Lights and How to Macramé Cord Covers

Where are my read in bed people? I like to end the day with reading a chapter or two under my heated blanket in bed. It is cozy and comfy and a good way to relax (depending on what I am reading). But, once I am in bed, I do not want to get out to turn off a light.

A bedside light is a must for a good, solid, read-in-bed, session. These rustic, industrial wall sconces are perfect for the job.

I found these after a little searching on Amazon. (See HERE) The price was right and I loved that they come with a glass shade. I also liked that they can be hardwired or plug in.

I originally was going to add side tables that were going to be an extension to my headboard. When I chose not to do that, I needed a way to hide or dress-up the lamp cords.

I decided to use jute and a simple macramé knot or a friendship bracelet knot to cover them.

I used jute or twine, but yarn or thick, cotton cord will work great too. Start by taping a 2" tail to one end of the cord--I started at the top.

It is hard to say how much it takes because that depends on the thickness or weight of the string you use, but be sure to have plenty. I used almost all of one ball of jute for two cords. Go over the top of the cord with your string.

Then wrap under and through the loop. I pull the string tight to the left and then tug it back to the right to get the knots wrapping around the cord in a spiral pattern.

Because the cord was somewhat flat, I tied knots on one side and then flipped the cord over to tie on the other side. Covering a whole cord takes two-three hours, depending on the thickness of your string. This is a great activity to do while watching a good movie.

I love the finished look--natural, rustic, boho.

Edison bulbs give us a nice, warm light to read by and the on/off switch on the wall sconce makes it so I can stay cozy in my bed when I am ready to go to sleep.
