Thrift Store Porch Decor and Stenciling a Flower Container

Thrift Store Porch Decor and Stenciling a Flower Container

It's Thrifty Thursday and today I am sharing more of my back porch decor. I thought I'd be ready to show you the whole back porch by now, but I am still tinkering and we have had some inclement weather (or really nice weather which has me out hiking or kayaking). An old, metal $2 thrifted stool and an ice cream bucket were a perfect addition to my back porch decor.

I needed a small footprint plant stand/drink holding table and remembered the metal stool I purchased awhile back.

It was pretty skiddywampus, which is why it was only $2. Hubby manhandled it back into almost an upright shape.

I decided I wanted to add a bit of my porch colors to the stool. After removing the cardboard type top, that was torn, I slapped some green, turquoise, and navy blue on the top and a little bit on the legs. When the paint was dry, I know I needed less paint for a more authentically old look, so I used some vinegar on a rag and twisted and dabbed and blotted the paint off.

A spray on clear coat finished the stool.

I have had this old metal ice cream can for 10+ years. I still use the old wood bucket part for magazines and books in my living room, but have not used the metal can for years. I did originally buy this at a thrift store. Ice cream makers with wooden buckets are always on my yes, buy it now list!

I added darker blue paint to the can and then decided to stencil it.

Using the Fresh Cut Flowers stencil from Funky Junk's Old Sign Stencils (GET IT HERE) I stenciled the ice cream can. HINT--tape the stencil down when stenciling on a curved surface. I sprayed the can with a clear coat.

I added a sunny yellow Gerbera Daisy. It's in its original pot so it can drain into the can and then I will empty the water out of the can. I may decide to drill holes in the ice cream can and plant in the can itself.

The colors scream summer water and sunshine to me. I love that I can use inexpensive finds to create a unique look that fits my style.
