I made this quick and easy (20 minute build time) bench with some of that lovely reclaimed oak.
I know, I know, why did I paint it? Because, painted benches sell. I used a bright green with a teal over the top.
The top was cracked and split, but by attaching the "legs", it holds the top together. Don't we all need a little help holding it together from time to time? I toenailed screws underneath to hold the legs in place
and then added screws down through the top to secure them. When I am painting a bench I don't mind the screws being through the top.Next, I attached braces for a bottom shelf. Very quick, very easy, very heavy being it is oak!
Oh, and look at the new "props" my kind brother-in-law saved from the garbage for me--a milk can with lovely patina
and a milk box. See the label that was on the milk box--LOVE!
What would you do with reclaimed oak barnwood?
Oh the possibilities are titillating! I love the bench, love the color, love the functionality of it. I am moving into a house in 2 days & I'm finally getting a small workshop. I hope to build small furniture, (such as your bench) & hopefully make a little money while I'm at it. I dabble in repurposing furniture too. I would be beyond thrilled to have a connection like you have for lovely old lumber. Last but not least, I love, love, love the old milk can. I had one before we moved to Washington but my hubby sold it to a neighbor because we had so much stuff to haul. I would love to find another one someday. BTW, thanks for keeping your blog an inspiring & fun blog to visit.
