Bloggy Awards

I have been honored to receive some awards recently.  Sweet Julie from It's the Little Things gave me this fun award.

And I received this award from Bird Crafts and Courtney at Redheads Have More Fun .

I think I am supposed to share some things about myself and since I haven't done that in awhile I thought I would.
*  I have always loved to craft,even as a small child.  I think decoupaging and making doll clothes were my first crafts.
*  I am a horrible typist (like you haven't noticed all of the typos!)--quit typing in high school--bad move--why use more than 4 fingers?
*  I only became a coffee drinker last year, thanks to my teenager.  I now love the stuff!
* I am a night owl by nature, forced to go to bed so I can drag my butt out of bed.
*  I like pickle and peanut butter sandwiches.
*  I sleep with my feet out of the covers, even in the dead of winter.

And don't forget So You think You Can Decorate begins tonight--can't wait to see the first projects!

Let The Light Shine Through

I made a "stained glass" window.  I epoxied glass dishes to an old window.  I still need to figure out hanging it--think I will use a chain with eye screws into the top of it.  Here it is sitting in my window.

You need to be neat with the epoxy--I probably could have been more so, but I am still pleased with the results and my version of stained glass.  Oh and the white stuff you see in the background? Snow, the same snow that has been on the ground since November--I am over it!

I Was Inspired By...

I am starting a new Friday feature (at least I think I am--we will give it a trial run) where I feature something I have made that was inspired by one of your fabulous blogs!

This week I was inspired by the ever creative Drab To Fab girls.  They truly live up to their name--turning some of the most hideous objects into fabulous pieces.

Pass The Plate

Or better yet, don't pass that plate or saucer you might find that is a single, lonely piece.  One very quick and easy idea is to glue the plate to a plaque, board, window, cupboard door, etc.  Add some hooks and you have a great way to enjoy that piece.  Hooks are so versatile--great for keys, towels, aprons, utensils, leashes, coats, purses, hats, etc.
I  loved the spring yellow and blue in this plate and painted the plaque (from a garage sale) to match:

And here is a dessert stand, nothing new, but again, I adored this plate and the blue candlestick.

Cake Diet

Want to go on a cake diet?  Turn your cake pan into a message center!

Actually I picked this oversized cake pan up at the thrift store.  I lightly sanded the inside bottom, used primer and 2 coats of chalkboard paint.  As we have established, I am cheap, that is why I use the brush on chalkboard paint--it costs so much less than the spray paint.  I added  a ribbon around the edge and as a hanger.  What I love is that it is both a chalkboard and a magnet board.

By the way, I having been forgetting my 100 ideas under $100 countdown.  The PB BB was idea #14 and the burlap pillow was #15 so this idea #16--84 to go!

Burlap Ruffled Pillow

Made a little burlap pillow.  I always make my pillows as covers so I can change them easily and just have a cover to store, not a whole pillow.  Plus, you don't have to handstitch it closed.

Start with a square the size you want (Remember to add some for seam allowance-- i.e. if you want a 16 inch pillow, cut a 17 inch square giving you 1/2 inch seam allowances.) Cut the second piece 4-5 inches longer--17" x 22".  Now cut the rectangular piece into 2 unequal pieces.  One will be half the size of your pillow size plus 1". For example, 1/2 of 17" is 8 and 1/2 plus 1"--so one piece will be 9 and 1/2 and one will be 12 and 1/2.  Following me??

Now iron and sew under a finish seam on the 2 irregular rectangles, along the 17" side.  With right sides together pin the smaller rectangle down first, with the larger rectangle on top, the sewn seams toward the middle.  Be sure to pin down the finished seams (see picture) so they don't catch.

Sew all around the pillow.  Turn right side out and add a pillow form or thrift store pillow.

Oh yes, and the ruffles?  I didn't show that part, but this fabric was from a paneled prairie skirt I got at thrift store, loved the fabric.   Usually the opening part of the pillow is the back, but I made it the front of this pillow.  I used one of the zipper roses as a button and a jute string to wrap around it for a closure.

And finally, the winner of the bracelet is Nancy at Lafe's Hidden Treasures.  Thanks to all who entered.  I did add felt on the inside of the bracelet.  Although it did do a nice job of exfoliating your hand as you put it on and off, I thought the felt might be a little better.
