From Barn to Sofa Table

A new sofa table design that I came up with,

beautiful barn wood makes it all that much better.

Cubbies,

and a bottom shelf add a lot of storage and display options.

Blue and white paint, stain completed the look.

Pallet Patio Bar/Buffet

Ok, this really is another pallet potting bench, or at least that was my intention when building it.  But after seeing the piece finished in the bright colors I used, I decided it would make great patio bar or buffet.  It just screams party and umbrella drinks.

I am not sure if I have made any two potting benches alike.  Each one has a little different design and I didn't stage this as it was headed to the trailer for The Prairie Sisters' show this weekend.  

I added a hook and pew clip on the side--great for towels or utensils.  

A metal flour container on the other side can hold condiments, ice if you used a plastic bag, a flower??

There is plenty of storage with the large, lower shelf and the skinny, upper shelf. Oh and these are a few of my latest signs also heading to the show and a shoe shine box that would be a great planter or tote for silverware and napkins.

Cabinet First Aid

This cabinet certainly needed some first aid when I got it, but for two dollars, it was worth the resuscitation.

After about an hour of degreasing and scraping old, stuck on oil, I painted it with Annie Sloan Decorative Chalk Paint in Emperor's Silk.  This red really is the perfect red and usually only takes one coat!

I built a little stand or shelf for the cabinet,

and painted the first aid white cross on it and finished with a glossy coat of urethane.

I see it as a fun "First Aid emergency medicine cabinet", i.e. liquor cabinet.

But, it would work equally as well in a bathroom as a real medicine cabinet.

Reclaimed Wood Wine Rack

I think I am becoming a man.  Now before you get too excited, what I mean is that I am having a difficult time painting wood.  Some of the wood in my reclaimed wood stash is so beautiful I just can't paint it.  Thus was the case with this wine rack I made:

As you can see, I did get a little color in there, after all, I am still me--bright color girl :).

But, I chose to leave the lovely alder pieces as is.

And not only did I not paint them, I also did not stain them a dark color, but used a natural stain on them instead.

This was a simple enough build.  I started by making the shelves, screwing the ledge on up through the bottom of the shelf.

I then used fairly long screws to screw the shelves on through the back.  This does have heavy D rings on it to hang it on a wall.  But it needs molly bolts to keep it secure on a wall and since I am selling this, I do not need 2 (more) large holes in my walls.

PS--It was only a small glass of wine in the middle of the afternoon--all for staging the photo shoot.

Puppy Art

The dog theme continues I guess with this puppy or dog art.  

Last December when I blogged about upcoming trends, one of those was dog motifs and this idea popped into the noggin'.  I finally got the idea out of the head and onto the "canvas", i.e. pallet wood.

I used a skewer to scratch the paint off for the ear, nose, and eye.

Good Dog

First of all, the important stuff--prayers are with all those in Boston dealing with another senseless tragedy.  Praying for peace for our nation and world!

Now the not so important stuff--I already shared this dog bed on my Facebook page, but if you haven't seen it or aren't on Facebook (and because I have nothing else to share today) I thought I would show it here.  I saw this originally at Home Frosting.  I made it a little differently than she did, but same style.  I used, wait for it...pallet wood.

I added some paint and a wishful, hopeful thinking sentiment--good dog.  My puppy wasn't so sure she could live up to the high expectations.

A pillow ticking cover, that is removable for washing finished up this cozy dog spot.

Pallet Bookshelf

Using pallet wood, I made this fun bookshelf.  

I am sure you have seen this similar one on Pinterest, and I would give credit if the link lead anywhere, but I could not find the original source. I made the shelves first,

and then attached the sides.  

This was not a precise process.  I placed the boards on the sides and penciled out the angle.  A little sanding helped even it up. I painted this one a little more subdued--green and blue and grey.

The woman who purchased it was not sure if she was going to use it in her kitchen or family room, but she was happy with her new shelf.
