Rustic Industrial Chest of Drawers
Dresser? Chest of Drawers? Whatever you call it, this little one got an easy makeover.
It was pretty wobbly, so the first order of business was to secure it by adding screws to the front braces that run above each drawer (or below it, depending on how you look at it). I did this by countersinking screws into the braces and into the sides of the chest of drawers.

Sunday Verses
Happy Sunday! We are called to live in peace with each other. But, as the election draws near (no worries, I am NOT getting political here), I am seeing tempers flaring, hurtful words being said, anger and differences that are resulting in broken fences between people. And, it reminds me how often we let differences come between us and how often we allow the "broken fences" to go without repair. God wants us to mend those fences, to heal those damaged relationships, and to work toward living peacefully with one another. This week let's take a step to heal a broken relationship, even if it is a baby step, and work towards living in peace with each other.

Pallet Wood+Drawer=Kitchen Island
There is just something about building kitchen islands that I seem to like.
So, when I spied this odd drawer sitting in a corner of the workshop (it is from our media area and once held video tapes--the previous owners left them),
I knew it would work great for the bottom of an island/bar/shelf.

Pallet Buster + A Pallet Stool
Y'all know I love pallets!
The number one question I get about pallets is, "How do you take them apart?" And in my book Crafting with Wood Pallets I share how I use a sawzall to cut pallets apart. This method works great when you have two people and if you are okay with the nail heads being left in the wood.
But, sometimes (ok, often times) I need a pallet disassembled and I am the only one at home. And sometimes I don't want the nail heads in the wood. In comes the PALLET BUSTER!

Sunday Verses
Happy Sunday! The line "My chains are gone, I have been set free" from Amazing Grace has been going through my head lately. How often do we (ME!) live our lives like we are still in chains and as if Christ did nothing for us on the cross? We forget his grace and sacrifice that save us, and instead choose to walk around shackled to our past mistakes, weighted down with our problems and shortcomings. We live with shame and guilt rather than freedom and forgiveness. Let's break the chains to those hardships and battles that keep us from fully experiencing Jesus's unconditional love. Today, give it to God, let it go, and know God's peace.

Delightful Dresser
When a friend asked me if I wanted to buy some project dressers (four total) that she had not been able to get to, I jumped on it. Good, decent dressers are becoming harder and harder to find.
Here is the first one I took from dumpy to delightful!

Sunday Verses
Happy Sunday! On vacation this summer, we walked through a forested area near my aunt's home in Portland. I loved all the green, especially the ivy growing up many of the trees. But, while it looked lovely, I learned that it is horrible for the trees and will eventually kill them. The ivy made me think about those things in life that "look pretty" and seem good, but really aren't. Daily, we are bombarded with things that appear great, but they are actually harmful. Thankfully, God gives us discernment to guide our decisions and choices. The more time we spend with Jesus in prayer and reading his Word, the easier it becomes to discern the good from the bad. This week, let's try to seek God more and listen to the Holy Spirit so that we make decisions that honor Him.

Easy Side Table
I have been making (and selling) quite a few simple side tables lately. They are quick and easy and just one of those pieces of furniture that I think people can never have enough of.

Sunday Verses
Happy Sunday! This fall I have seen a picture of fall leaves that says, "Autumn shows us how beautiful it is to let go." It reminded me of this verse from Isaiah. Folks, we love to hang onto to all kinds of things that Jesus wants us to let go of--anger and resentment, guilt and shame, bad habits, unhealthy relationships--the list could go on and on. The work Jesus did on the cross allows us to let go of the old things, to forget them, and to look forward to new and better things. It is not easy to let go of the old and familiar, even if it is painful, because it is comfortable and what we know. The new is unknown and can be scary. But, I promise you, if you give it to Jesus, if you let it go, it will be beautiful and God will work something new and wonderful in your life.

Thrift Store Chair Makeover
A week or so ago I discussed thrift stores and how even though they have gotten pricey, I still can and do find bargains,
like this $7 chair (I also got the mirror on it for $4). This was most likely originally from Pottery Barn or Pier 1 and had a slick, fakey, paint finish on it.
