Scrappy Sofa Table

Working with some fence scraps from the neighbor, I built this fun sofa table.  Again, as with the little red stool/bench, I had no real plan when I started other than I knew I wanted to build a table of some sort.  I get so involved in what I am building I rarely remember to take process pictures, but I will try to tell you the steps I took to build this.

I decided on a sofa or entry table so I first built a rectangle from 2 x 4's.  I added the legs on the outside of the rectangle so that I would have a space between them for scrapy painted wood. 

When building tables or benches, a lower shelf always helps for support, so I added a piece of wood perpendicular to the legs.  I then decided I wanted pieced together wood scraps on the top so I added 2 x 4's inside the rectangle, screwing these in from the outer side of the 2 x 4 rectangle. 

I found the pieces I wanted for the top, cut them to size and used a nail gun to attach both these and the bottom shelf. 

The wood for the tabletop sanded up so nice and smoothly, a coat of briwax deepened the colors and added a little shine.  The top feels like butta!

I love the end result and while this little table is already sitting in my space at the Antique Barn, I think I will have to make another one to keep!

Sometimes a Girl Just Has to Build

I love to paint.  I love to repurpose.  I love junk.  But sometimes, I just have to build something.  Cutting the wood, drilling, screws...it feeds my soul to create something new from scraps of wood.  Using some fence boards my neighbor gave me, I made a little stool/bench.

 

I had no plan when I started, wasn't even sure what I was creating (as is often the case with us abstract random people), but started by cutting one of the boards into 4 equal pieces.  I decided these would make good sides or legs for a little table.  A few more cuts and then I figured out I was making a stool. 

 Some quick assembly, sanding, red paint and wax and aaah, my building itch was scratched (for a day or two anyway).

A Little Shelf Remix

I got this shelf from the thrift store for a few dollars.  As is the norm, I forgot to take a before picture, but imagine a 1970's wood shelf, no back.  The people who owned it apparently couldn't figure out how to hang it and had big, visible metal shelf brackets attached . 

 I removed the brackets, filled the holes and flipped it the opposite way (so the longer sides were at the bottom, not the top like they had it. 

Some paint on the shelf, leftover painted scrap wood on the back, and some hooks and an old dated shelf is reborn.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

There's snow in them thar mountains! 

This is the view from my front porch-eek, not ready for the white stuff, but a perfect day to stay home and do a little crafting to get ready for a November Junk Fest Holiday sale (after sitting in the freezing cold and watching a football game this morning on the other side of those mountains!).

I am working on a rather large and extended snowman family.  This idea is courtesy of sweet Mamie Jane--find the tute here.  They still need embellishment and glitter (now where did I put that glitter...).

And also working on some ornaments, that will also get the glitter treatment and little tags and ribbons.  I promise to share the finished products when that happens.

Patience Please

I am trying to simplify redo blog, having a few issues, sorry for it's goofy look!  And I need help,as usual!  How do I get rid of the other background?  I know it is embedded in the HTML somewhere, somehow?  I need directions in simple, blonde-minded language!

Medieval Torture Device?

What do you get when you attach some leather belts to an old ironing board?  A medieval torture device?

Aaah, another week has gone by--I did manage a few posts.  I have been busy working on a special order--10 items painted for a gal.  I have 3 more special orders to do, my own stuff to do for my booth (did I tell you I got a space once again at the antique place I work at?), have taxied kids from here to kingdom come, made it through homecoming week, and mostly working through helping my freshman in college who is struggling.  Seeing all that you have been busy with makes me smile and is a great little escape.  Check out some of these lovely links:
