Simple Seat

Sometimes simple really is best.  Sometimes, I forget that and then a piece sits for awhile before it sells.  Happily, I remembered that rule with this chair makeover.



Don't get me wrong, I love bright and pattern and a little out of the box most of the time.  But, I sell what I create.  Simple sells.  Simple is versatile and fits into a variety of home decor schemes--and important aspect to keep in mind if you sell what you make.

This chair started out like this--lovely vinyl seat!

I painted it in old ochre from Annie Sloan first.  I always start to paint a chair upside down.

I then painted a thin coat of French linen over the top.  I sanded with 150 grit sand paper.

I recovered the seat in 2 layers (because it is thin) of muslin and then measured and taped off some stripes.

I painted these with the French linen chalk paint.

Simple,

easy,

versatile.

The pictures hanging above the chair are some thrift store adoptees--I can't leave them all alone in the stores.  I hot glued them to a piece of burlap ribbon.
