Sometimes, well most of the time it truly is the little things, the little victories that bring joy. Last night it was a hike.
I have been dealing with plantar fasciitis (BIG heel pain!) for the past 7 months or so, and while I am not ever overly active in the winter months, I have missed going on wogs (slow walk/jogs!) on the clear days. Last night was such a beatiful evening I decide it was time to try a hike. We went to one of our favorite nearby trails that is only about 2 1/2 miles long. See the view--the beautiful snow capped mountains in the distance?
I not only survived, but my foot is no more sore this morning than it is on a normal day. It is still not 100%, but so much better and now that I know it can handle hiking, I am happy! i am still not sure my foot is ready to heavy the hard pavement, but that is okay, hiking and biking are my activity of choice in the summer.

Glad you got a hike in. I had plantar F. too and it is not fun at all. What seemed to help me the most to get over it was to sleep in the boot. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteMy sister has been dealing with that, too - so miserable! How wonderful that you are able to hike! I used to love hiking, we are planning on starting with our kids this summer (which will keep the pace easy, too, as I have gained so much weight in the last 10 years, ugh!). Your hike was beautiful, I'm sure you'll be wogging before you know it, haha!
ReplyDeleteI am on month 4 of plantar faciitis ( a second time ) the first time it took 6 months to heal. Everyday icing and stretching and never going barefoot. Keen shoes help with lots of support. I am just getting to walk again here in wyoming.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain (literally). What helped me was a simple stretch and good shoe inserts. Do the stretch sitting down, your bad foot crossed on your lap, (like how guys sit) pull on your toes with one hand and rub the arch of your foot with the other. I hope this helps.
