When I saw this flour stencil from Funky Junk's Old Sign Stencils
(affiliate link), I knew I wanted to build a wood bin to use it on.
Using pallet wood, I created four sides joined together with 1" x 1" boards on the inside. The front and back are three boards wide and the sides are two pallet boards wide.

I joined the four panels together, added a bottom on the inside and made a lid.

I was going to attach the lid with hinges, but didn't have ones on hand that would work well so I opted for leather belt pieces.

I wanted this to look rough, hobbled together as if a farmer made it in a barn.

I added metal handles on the side which makes it much easier to move. I stenciled the flour stencil on the front and then lightly sanded it and stained it all.

While I wouldn't store actual flour in it, it would be great for dog food, trash, recycling, potting soil, blankets, etc.

Where would you use this fun, rustic piece?
I love it! I think dog food (still in its bag of course to keep mice out and 'dust' in) would be a great use for it. But it depends on where you put it... it could hold outdoor cushions if its near a porch door... so many uses!
