Thrifty Thursday Vintage Vignette

Today I am sharing a simple, vintage vignette put together with some recent, fabulous thrift store finds. The main items that are featured in this vignette are a McCoy Water Lily Vase,

and a vintage, Asian painting of irises (?).

A few other thrifted items and I pulled together a sweet vignette with a fall feel.

There was a small scratched area on the frame of the painting that showed some gold so I decided to use antique gold Rub-n-Buff on the frame.

The propped picture gives height to the grouping. I thought the picture and the pitcher worked well together in both color and style. I added some dried grasses from my yard to the McCoy vase. This vase has a #30 on the bottom. This how McCoy stamped their pottery before 1930. It is in excellent condition, no chips.

I used wadded up brown paper bag to hold the grasses in place.

The painting and the grasses both add height and the grasses, along with the basket tray give the vignette a natural and organic element. Grouping some of the items on a small tray helps a vignette to have a cohesive look.

A brass bowl filled with rice holds a picture of my mom on her 12th birthday. We will be celebrating her 85th birthday in a week. According to my grandma's writing on the back of the photo, she is holding her birthday cake--chocolate cake with yellow icing. I love displaying random, older photos like this. The brass ties into the gold on the frame.

Tips to create a simple vignette:

1. Gather and use items that have a common theme either in color or style.

2. Add height with flowers, sticks, a tall picture.

3. Display a favorite photo in a unique way.

4. Group some of the items together on a tray, basket, large book.

5. Add a touch of paint or metallic to tie items together.

6. Keep it simple, use just a handful of interesting items that you love.

7. Have fun and happy thrifting.

*Full disclosure--I am probably not keeping this vignette together, but I do think I will use the pitcher in a fall centerpiece. The other items may end up for sale.
