Devotional on Letting God Define Us
Happy Sunday! Dictionary: a reference book that contains an alphabetical listing of words that define them, along with other pertinent information. Definitions are important when we don't understand a word's meaning. But, what words do we use to define ourselves? Do you use labels such as mom, teacher, student, etc.? Do your activities and what you do define you--you are a good cook, a creative artist, a gifted athlete? God never intended for what we do, how we perform, and what others say about us to define us. While these things might determine what we do and what we are passionate about, they are fleeting and fickle and can change instantly. God wants to be the only one that defines us. When we look in his dictionary, the Bible, we see that we are precious, wanted, planned for, honored, and above all else, loved beyond measure. Let's work on letting God alone define us and focus on knowing that we are who God says we are, period!

Make a Side Table from Reclaimed Wood

I am knee deep in Christmas projects--snowmen, signs, snowflakes, etc. BUT, I am trying to hold off sharing anymore Christmas with y'all until November (but I am not making any promises). Plus, I need more than Christmas decor items for an upcoming sale.

I couldn't decide what I wanted to build and then I spied a great slab of barnwood in the corner of the workshop. It is 10" x 24".

I decided it would make a perfect small bench or side table.

Sunday Verses

be content no matter what season you are in
Happy Sunday! I love fall, it is my favorite season. The only thing I don't like about fall is that it means winter is soon to follow. And, although I like some snow in the months of December and January, I am usually not thrilled about the many months of cold and snow that we get in Montana. But, because I choose to live in Montana, I try to be content with our long winters and I know warmer weather will eventually return. Life is a series of seasons--some our favorite times and some we suffer through. But, when we know that God is a present in ALL of the intervals of our lives and we trust that a new season will come, it is easier to be content in whatever situation we are in. To be satisfied and grateful wherever we are is a true gift of faith.

Stencil a Rustic Sign for Christmas

I know, I know... it is only October, it is fall, an elf dies for every Christmas "thang" shared before December, BUT...I am show preppin' and in crafting world that means Christmas is NOW!!

So sorry, but not sorry because this sign is pretty darn cute, if I do say so myself 😉.

devotional on God knowing us and loving us
Happy Sunday! I recently spent a wonderful few days with friends who have been friends for 38 years. The time was filled with laughter and tears and real talk, and as one friend said, "It is good to be with people who know your shadow." Yes. When people know your shadow, they have seen your good and your bad, they know the details. God too, knows our shadows. He knows our dark places. He knows the ugly aspects that we try to keep hidden. He knows and he still loves us madly and unconditionally. Jesus loves us and wants a relationship with us regardless of what our shadows look like. If you have been avoiding God because you are afraid of what he might find in you, stop. He already knows and he doesn't care--let him love you today right where you are.

Make a Table with Vintage Wood Ironing Boards

What do you say when a friend asks if you want some vintage ironing boards bases (she made signs from the wood tops)? YES, of course!

I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them. I flipped them and turned them and eventually put two together to make a table base.

Devotional on letting go
Happy Sunday! I have been seeing the saying "Autumn is about to show us how lovely letting go can be." Letting go can be challenging. It is in our nature to want to hold on to familiar things and ways--they comfort us and can be easier than moving forward into new and unknown places. But, God is all about letting go of the old. He tells us over and over that He is making all things new for us and that He wants us to have a fresh start daily. When we let go of the familiar and comfortable things in our lives and embrace and believe that the newness that God has for us is good, we can move forward in faith and with a fresh and positive spirit.

Stencil a Fall Sign for the Porch

Stencil a Fall Sign for the Porch
I love fall, but I can hardly believe it is October already. It is time to get serious about fall decorating (or about as serious as decor can be 😉). And, a quick and easy stenciled sign for fall is a perfect place to start!

Devotional on Working Together
Happy Sunday! I am sure most of you have heard about geese and how they support each other and work together to fly hundreds of miles (if you haven't, look that up!). God created us to work together. He puts people and relationships in our lives that encourage us to work together. God wants us to accept each other, faults and all, and to just love each other where we are at. It is not always (or ever?) easy, but it builds our faith and it teaches us about HIS unconditional love for us. Working together in unity enables us to accomplish more. Supporting each other, forgiving each other, loving each other makes Jesus smile.

Hand Lettered Give Thanks Sign

Fall is here (at least in Montana) for real now--the leaves are changing, there is frost in the mornings, and I have started making for fall shows.

I put together some sign blanks with the same thin reclaimed boards I recently acquired (SEE HERE). Sign blanks are simply boards joined together that are initially left blank to later use for painting signs.

After an Instagram poll, I decided to make a sign for fall. ( I was already to go for Christmas signs, but readers voted for fall). Of course, giving thanks is really a yearly thing, or should be, but it is especially perfect for autumn.
Hand Lettered Give Thanks Sign
I sketched out my sign with a pencil first. I used a dart board to make a circle and hand-lettered the give thanks. I use white, semi-gloss, latex paint and a small liner brush to paint the sign.

For the circle or wreath, I painted the main line or circle first and then I added more lines and leaves. When the paint was dry, I stained over everything, wiping the stain from the paint. this gives the paint a nice off-white warmth rather than stark white.
