Rustic Jelly Cupboard DIY

I love when inspiration comes from unlikely places--such as a simple green screen insert. 

When a friend gave me an old screen I knew it would make a great door for a jelly cupboard so a cupboard I built, right around the screen.

I started by building a frame that fit around the screen.  I built two of these, one for the front and one for the back.

I then decided how deep I wanted the cupboard, and then cut several different reclaimed boards this size (22") for the sides.  I secured the top and bottom side board to the frames with screws.

 I used the nail gun to secure the other pieces.

Cut shelf brackets and secure them to the inside of the cabinet with screws.

Cut wood for the shelves and top of the cabinet (the cabinet is 5' tall BTW).

I notched out the back of the shelves to fit inside the back frame.

I added two 5 foot pieces of the wood to the back of the cabinet.

I used some hinges from an old door to secure the screen to the cabinet.

A little slide closure isn't necessary as the door closes well, but I included in case someone needs to keep the door securely closed. The aqua color that peeks out from under the green is fun!

Some of the side boards had paint on them, I added a little more paint to a few of them,

A good sanding and a clear coat finished the cupboard. 

This would be great as a wine cabinet in the kitchen or for towels in a bathroom or anywhere a little extra storage is needed.
