The Accidental Footstool

What is the saying?  When you fail, try, try again?  That is the thinking I used when I created this footstool.

This little base started out as a base I made for a three tiered side table.  Except I didn't like it for that.

Instead of trashing it or taking it apart, I decided it was the right size for a footstool.  And I just happened to have a piece of plywood cut the right size to use for it.  I grabbed some grey pillow ticking I had, an old pillow and some batting and covered the plywood.

I start by stapling the corners and the middle of each of the sides.

I stapled the sides and then pulled the corner staple.

I trim the batting and fabric from the corner and the re-staple it.

I added 1"x1" boards to the inside of the base to attach the upholstered top to.

I screwed the top to these braces and then hot glued a rope around the edge for gimp.

It is a fun and sturdy stool, perfect for tired or feet or even as a small, extra seat.

  6. I love making footstools. I made one from an old washtub. Great storage & instead of feet I just attached furniture sliders so it wouldn't catch on my carpet. Plus it kept it frim getting too tall. What is gimp btw?
