When you hear farmhouse style do you think black and white and JoAnna Gaines? I think most folks do nowadays. But, when I hear farmhouse I think green and red and yellow and white. I think of furniture that has been hobbled together from bits and pieces in the barn over a long winter.
And that is what I had in mind when I built this piece last week.

I wanted something that wasn't perfect, but a piece of furniture that looked like it had been lovingly used for years. To achieve that look I built with less than perfect reclaimed wood.

I painted the sides of the worktable with different layers of color, applying the paint with blocks of wood.

The wood was not all the same side and the top was purposely NOT joined together seamlessly. I included a couple shelves to make this table a work horse.
I added angled braces on the four upper corners to help further secure the piece. I did
put rolling caster wheels on the bottom to make it a little taller and more functional. This work table could be used in the kitchen, as a bar, in a craft room, or even on the porch.

The table lasted less than 24 hours in my booth before it sold to a favorite customer. I also made this rustic bar sign, using some fantastic grey barnwood. I stenciled the letters and then hand-painted the shadow.
Hi Becky,
ReplyDeleteI love both pieces - the work table and the BAR sign. I think the old chippy wood makes the pieces. I do love the simple look of black and white but need some color in my rooms as well. Your work table could work with almost any farmhouse decor. Nice job! ~Cheryl
Thank you Cheryl. I often think of my grandma's farmhouse, she loved color!
DeleteI love it. Farmhouse & red go hand in hand I think. It's functional & nice looking.
ReplyDeleteThank you Deb! I agree, red screams farmhouse to me.
