I am in show preppin' mode, which means I am a little crazy this week. I go through stages before a show: 1.) I have plenty of time, I will get so much made. 2.) I am doing great (pat on the back). 3.) Crud, that took longer than I expected. 4.) I don't want to do the show, I am going to quit and not go. And finally 5.) It is what it is, I didn't get it all done, but I did alright!
Today I am stage 4! In 24 hours I will get to stage 5.
Here is a bookshelf I built for the show.

This piece was inspired by some scrap barnwood boards I had that were too short for many things. I decided they would be perfect for a little bookshelf.

I wanted it to look sort of like straight ladders were used for the sides. I built the two sides first, spacing the shelf rungs 15" apart.

I painted the shelves with wood blocks, using red, green, yellow, and aqua. I painted both sides in case something looked underneath.

I stained everything before putting it together. I attached the shelves to the rungs with screws.

I used some barnwood that had some give to create an X on the back, which helps to sturdy the shelf.

This makes a great display shelf, pantry organizer, or for books in a kids room (secure to a wall if you have climbers).
Check out the new to me old books I picked up a thrift store today. I chose the books based on their colors. They make great lifts for items you want to show off.
The books are kinda like the acrylic risers I used to use making display vignettes at the Hallmark where I worked for 15 years in Nevada. That's a very nice shelf Becky. Stage 5 here she comes, ready or not! Lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks Deb! Yes, books are more fun than acrylic risers :). I hit stage five at about 8 o'clock last night. Now to get it all loaded and unloaded, in a snow storm none the less!
