I have been loving the little wood (and ceramic) houses I have been seeing a lot of. Of course I said, "I can make those!" so I did!
They are cute grouped together or spread out on a window sill or shelf. It finally dawned on me that I have a great little decorating spot above our front entry doors.
These little wood houses are perfect on this transom window ledge.
Some faux garland intertwined between them adds to their charm.
They are easy to make, but they do take some steps.
I started with some scrap boards--some 4"x4" and some other odd size scrap wood pieces I sanded them lightly and then painted each one a different color. IF you are not a wood worker or do not have access to scrap wood and tools, you can buy unfinished wood houses at the craft store or make some out of Model Magic air clay or even cereal box cardboard.
I then cut the boards into house shapes using the miter saw. Some roofs have a 45 degree angle and some have a 30 degree. Some have a peaked roof and some have an angled roof line. I painted the wood houses white, yellow, orange, red, green, and blue.
I left some natural.
I hand-painted the doors and windows, changing the style for each one. I then lightly sanded each house and stained them and finished them with Wise Owl Furniture Salve.
Old, rusty bolts and nails were added as chimneys to some of the houses. I drilled a hole a bit smaller than the bolt in the wood house and then screwed it in.
Once I add wreaths and garland to the door, my main entry will all be festive and sweet.
I did make a dozen sets of three of these little wood houses to sell. I am packaging them together. Three of them grouped together help to create a darling, easy, Christmas centerpiece.
I placed them on a wood lazy Susan, wrapped some battery operated twinkle lights around the houses, and faux (or fresh) greenery,
and some fake snow--simple, easy, and sweet!
