Under $100 Linky Party

How are you doing with that whole spring ahead thing?  I love that it is lighter in the evenings, but ugh, the mornings!  Luckily we are on spring break this week, but I had to work 4 days of it.  We are enjoying nicer weather here in Montana--I hope to hike tomorrow!  How are you doing?

Rustic Pallet Potting Bench

Pallets and potting benches pair particularly, perfectly well together.  A little alliteration for you--but it is true!  This pallet wood was weathered, a lovely grey so I chose to work with that and make a more rustic looking bench.  

Although each potting bench I make is a little different, I always like to include a few of the same elements:  a bottom shelf,

hooks or places for gloves, tools,

something extra on the top/back such as a shelf or chalkboard. Here are a few of the recent signs I have painted on pallet pieces.

I did slap on a little paint and stain, but let the natural wood shine through.

The cross piece in the back helps make it a little more sturdy.

A great place to get all of those spring pots planted.

Vintage Seed Packet Sign

Inspired by a vintage seed packet, I painted this sign on some pallet boards I put together.

Simple,

spring planting...can't wait.

Under $100 Linky Party

Happy Hump Day!  I have been busy working on new things, but even more so, being a basketball mom.  Our team heads to state tomorrow, after winning divisionals 2 weeks ago.  Wow, basketball moms are in close competition with soccer moms in terms of what we do to support our guys.  Treat bags, shirt making, bus decorating, send off dinners, send off rallies, meals and food for the trip are a few of the activities I have been enjoying this past week.  Here is a picture of the team after winning divisionals--it had been 17 years since the last divisional win.

Hickory, Dickory, Bench

Oh, how I wish I had a hundred pallets like the one I got this wood from.  Sadly, I have only found one.  It is so lovely--thick chunks of hickory.  I had a tough time deciding what I wanted to use this precious bit of wood, but finally chose to make a bench.  

I am not sure I ever make two benches the same way.  This was easy construction and even though I didn't take pictures of the steps, I think you can tell how it is constructed.

I think I was channeling a man-- the wood was so pretty I didn't want to paint it too much.  But, because I am me, I did have to have a little paint on there.  I slapped on a little turquoise and white.

This bench is heavy and solid--thank you perfect pallet!

Pallet Wood

I had a fun weekend, building with pallet wood.  I made five different items--some from cedar pallet wood, some from hickory, pine, oak.  I love pallet wood. They still need some paint so they are not ready to show off.  I did want to share this great post on pallet wood and which type to look for from Instructables.com. Happy building!
