Window Chalkboard

When you are in the junking business, junk tends to find its way into your life.  Such was the case recently when a friend from high school who now lives in Oklahoma saw that a friend of hers in our hometown was throwing out 1940's windows. My friend contacted me, a few more connections got involved and I ended up with a nice pile of old windows.  I made an easy project with the first one.

Pumpkin Leftovers

'Tis the season for all things pumpkin--pies and muffins, cookies and lattes!  Yum, but oh so fattening.  These pumpkin leftovers have 0 calories!

Barn Wood Sofa Table

Sometimes, I talk to wood and visa-versa, it talks to me.  I can pick up a piece of reclaimed barn wood and it tells me what it wants to be.  Such was the case with this sofa table.

When I grabbed this piece of lovely, warped, gouged, and imperfect slab of barn wood out of a pile I knew it would make a lovely sofa table top.

The construction was easy--I added some long front apron pieces to some 2x8's.

A shelf on the bottom helps to sturdy and square up the table and is a great place for baskets.

I secured the top from the underside.  A sanding, some grey paint on the legs and apron, and stain finished the look.

I love the scratches and dings on the table top and the beautiful, aged wood patina.

A simple build for a versatile table--this works wonderfully behind a sofa, in an entry, as a buffet in the dining room, even the dog approves. Does reclaimed wood speak to you?

Not only am I sharing this table, but I'd also like to share a few of my favorite bloggers.  Grab a cup of tea and take a few minutes (or more!) to visit them and say hi!

The Center of Attention

What is the center of attention on your Christmas table?  Why the centerpiece of course.

Today I am outling and planning my 12 days of Christmas posts that I will be bringing you in November.  And right now I am thinking centerpieces, what will I do this year?  Here are a few Christmas centerpieces past for inspiration:

Last year I used a berry sieve--I liked the height it provided!

A favorite red toolbox worked one year.

A doll cradle and antlers provided the perfect white Christmas centerpiece.

Milk glass and an old Libby's food crate have graced my Christmas table too.

For me the perfect centerpiece starts with the perfect container to build the centerpiece around.  And while the fresh greens will wait until December, I look forward to gathering "centerpiecey" supplies today and creating something fun and new for this year's Christmas table. What do you use for a Christmas centerpiece?

Less, More Bulletin Board

There are some things we need to do less and some we need to do more.  I decided to include a few of my favorites (that I need to work on!!) on a ginormous bulletin board.

Salvage Style, A Reclaimed Wood Pumpkin, & Link Party

salvaged reclaimed wood pumpkin http://bec4-beyondthepicketfence.blogspot.com/2014/10/salvage-style-reclaimed-wood-pumpkin.html
Welcome friends to a fun event, Salvage Style--9 junking, salvaging, reclaiming bloggers joining up to bring you 9 fabulous projects!  Not only are we showing you 9 great, doable projects, but there is a link party where you can link up your own Salvage Style projects and a pin board where we will be pinning our favorite Salvage Style projects.
I created a fun, fall pumpkin from reclaimed wood.
salvaged reclaimed wood pumpkin http://bec4-beyondthepicketfence.blogspot.com/2014/10/salvage-style-reclaimed-wood-pumpkin.html
I started by making a pattern from a piece of newspaper.  I just free-handed the pumpkin on half the paper so that it was symmetrical.  I traced this onto two pieces of salvaged barn wood.

Rustic Hall Tree

When I dragged a piece of corrugated tin home from the side of the road I got the eye roll.  If you are a junker, you know the one.  The look that says, "What are you going to use that for?  Why are you bringing garbage home?  We will let that sit around for a year (or ten) and then take it to the dump."
