Drawer Shelf For a Fickle Pre-Teen

If my 11 year old daughter had her way, she'd change her room scheme every six months--not going to happen.  We do however always seem to be adding here and there to it.  The latest addition is this shelf unit made form old drawers.
She has a narrow wall between her bedroom door and closet door so this was the perfect spot for a small shelf.
I painted the outside of the drawers white
and the inside in bright colors to match her bedding.
I screwed the drawers to each other and added one long screw into a stud to secure the unit to the wall.  She stylized the shelves.
I like the extra ledges created by offsetting the drawers--perfect for this little mouse,
and my daughter's sand collection.
Her room is not clean right now, but here are some glimpses--one wall has inspirational words and polka dots,
She loves her Paris poster.
I made her L shaped pallet beds (the beds are really messy, but you can see the color here).
This is her art wall,
and the top of her dresser arranged just so.
Her dresser is white with bright colored drawers,
hooks are a lifesaver in a kid's room.
She loves drawing different things on her chalkboard.
It is a happy room and when everything except the bedding is recreated from a thrift store or made from leftover parts and pieces, I guess we can afford to change it up often (I have told her every 2 years).

  1. Good for her! Nice job on the shelf and would love to see the pallet bed! Sounds like something my newly graduated daughter would like

  2. Fun shelf. I love all the bright and cheerful colors in her room. I also have a very small collection of sand. My favorite is from Provincetown Cape Cod. I went there once some years back with my dear sister Cheryl. The Lord called her home in January of 2005. I miss her very much.

  3. I really love it! I love also that you let her do the decorating/styling too! The drawer shelves are awesome! My kids will be lucky if we EVER get to even doing their rooms! It seems an overwhelming task to me so every two years seems like a lot! What a great mom!
