Stencil A Herb Starter Garden Box

Do you ever spy something in someone else's cart at the thrift and think, "Darn, I would have grabbed that if I had seen it first,"? That is what I thought when I saw this green, wood box, basket, handled crate.

When I saw the lady who had it put it back on the shelf, I snatched it up. With the plastic liner in it, I knew it would make a great seed planting starter box.

Using the Locally Grown Herbs stencil from Funky Junk's Old Sign Stencils (get yours HERE), I stenciled both of the long sides with the HERBS.

On one of the short ends of the handled box, I stenciled the herbs or plant from the stencil,

and the LOCALLY GROWN on the other end.

I planted organic herb seeds in the plastic tray. I will transfer these to the garden in 6 weeks or so. After I transfer the herb plants, I think the wood basket will be perfect for collecting fresh herbs from the garden.

I wanted to mark where each herb was and wanted something a little different. I took some old keys I had and glued the herb names cut from the seed packet to a key.

I tied the handles together with some jute to keep them upright and to add a little something extra.

I will keep these near a sunny window and will let you know how the growing goes. Have you started any seeds yet?

  1. So cute! Functional too. I've planted only flowers so far, but tomatoes are on my to do list. Planting some, that is. I love homegrown tomatoes so much!
