12 Days of Christmas--Day 7

On the seventh day of Christmas Beyond the Picket Fence gave to me, a little crate that is sweet like candy.
Now lest you think I have started dovetailing my boxes, I have not.  This was rescued from the high school shop class bonfire pile (the rejected projects get saved for a bonfire).  Unfortunately, they were not able to have their usual homecoming bonfire because of a burn ban.  Luckily for me, I was able to rescue a few things, three of which were boxes that the kids had practiced dovetails on.  These "boxes" were just four sides, no top or bottom to them.  I used pallet wood to make a crate bottom.
I came up with this fun company name and tagline on my own and hand painted it on the box, after designing and printing it.  I rubbed chalk on the back of the paper to transfer it on the red paint.
I added my usual belt handles
to complete this fun box.

12 Days of Christmas--Day 6

On the sixth day of Christmas Beyond the Picket Fence gave me, a knifecicle to hang on my tree.  Yes, I said knifecicle.
12 days of Christmas Knifecicles http://bec4-beyondthepicketfence.blogspot.com/2012/11/12-days-of-christmas-day-6.html
These are quick and easy.  I am showing them on an outdoor tree because doing my 12 Days of Christmas early means I don't have my Christmas tree up yet, but also I really like them outdoors.  Not sure if they would survive a Montana winter, but maybe?  They certainly would in a warmer climate and might bring a little glittery "ice" to some of you who don't get ice on a regular basis.  I started with some Modge Podge and Martha glitter.
12 days of Christmas Knifecicles http://bec4-beyondthepicketfence.blogspot.com/2012/11/12-days-of-christmas-day-6.html
I brushed the Modge Podge onto the blade of old silver plated knives.
12 days of Christmas Knifecicles http://bec4-beyondthepicketfence.blogspot.com/2012/11/12-days-of-christmas-day-6.htmlI sprinkled glitter on them and set them carefully on a lid to dry.  When they were dry I sprayed clear sealer on the glitter to seal it.

I drilled holes through the top and added a sheer ribbon.

I cut the ribbon narrow on one side to get the ribbon through the hole.

I think knifecicles would be beautiful on a typical tree with the lights reflecting off of the silver and glitter or on a bare branch tree like I show.

12 Days of Christmas--Day 5

On the fifth day of Christmas Beyond the Picket Fence gave me, a place to hang my stockings.
This piece started life as a bed rail from this headboard and footboard that became chalkboards.
I cut it,
and added some chalkboard paint,
hooks and Old White paint.
You can write names, Christmas lists, etc. above each hook.  The little ledge is a great place to prop photos or little Christmas trinkets.
These not only would work great as stocking holders, but all year long.

Now it is your turn to link up your Christmas ideas.  This linky party will remain open through Christmas.  I will be sharing it every day of my 12 Days of Christmas.  There will be no 12 days of Christmas posts on Sundays or Wednesdays, I will share my regular Sunday Verses and linky party on those days.  Please read the linky party rules, thanks!

12 Days of Christmas--Day 3

On the third day of Christmas Beyond the Picket Fence gave me, a place for my Christmas cards to hangy.  I started with a great window, well really an old screen/storm door insert.

I then added an easy garland I made by cutting circles out of book pages and old sheet music.

I sewed these onto a piece of twine (I always call this jute, but I did have someone ask me what jute was) using a zig-zag stitch.  This is quick and give the garland nice "body" or rigidity.  This garland would be great on a tree, across the mantle, draped around chandeliers.

I used staples to attach the garland to the back of the window frame, and some clothespins I painted and roughed up with some salt to hang your cards and photos.

This would be good after Christmas as well for notes, photos, etc.

12 Days of Christmas--Day 2

On the second day of Christmas Beyond the Picket Fence gave to me, a Noel sign for hanging. A little linguistics for you--Noel is the French word for Christmas and is derived from the Latin word meaning Nativity.
Reclaimed wood NOEL http://bec4-beyondthepicketfence.blogspot.com/2012/11/12-days-of-christmas-day-2.html
I made this Noel much like the EAT signs I have done, using pallet wood.  I use small pieces of beadboard to connect the letters.  I did add hangers on the back, but I show it in these pictures propped on my (dusty) shelf.

I could have made a square O, or I suppose a hexagon, but I chose to use something circular for the O.  You could use a saw blade,

I like the rust on the blade.

or a wreath like I did.

A silver platter, a wooden plate, an enamel lid, a jello mold would also work great.  I think I will stick with the wreath and maybe add a few berries to it.

12 Days of Christmas--Day One

On the first day of Christmas Beyond the Picket Fence gave to me...a swag with some rusticity.
Did I not warn you the rhymes would be bad?  Only so many words rhyme with me.  Now, I have a confession to make, I have had a tough time coming up with Christmas ideas to share.  I have some plans for some fun things, but they haven't happened yet.  I have been working on the smaller. crafty things and the conclusion I have come to is that I am not really a "crafter". I like to think bigger--furniture, home decor that serves a purpose, wood and power tools.  Coming up with smaller decor items is a challenge.  I look and I play and I think and I put it down and come back to it.  I am getting ready for a Christmas market and I need some of these smaller items to sell, and I use them in my holiday decor, I am just more comfortable with a sliding compound miter saw than I am with a glue gun.  So with that confession made, here is my first project--a  swag with some rustic elements.

I started with some little tart tins that were shiny.  I put them in vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, and salt.
Within a day, the tins were rusty.  A few of them did not have enough rust on them so I sprinkled some more salt on them which gave them a nice, crusty rust.
And then they sat because I wasn't sure what to do with them. They are adorable as ornaments, but you all have seen that.  I finally decided to paint some letters in them and use them in a little swag.  I drilled holes in them to attach them to some jute twine.
I also made some paper stars for these.  I drew these on old book pages and sewed around them, erased the pencil and then cut them out and punched a hole in them.  These were fun to make, you might see more of these.
I used some fake greenery--I am not a big fan of fakes, but this stuff looks good.  I laid it out and tied the top with jute.  I also added a jute loop to hang it and big burlap "ribbon" knot.
Simple and perfect for a Montana cabin.
