Rustic Buffalo Check Table

I picked up this table at a garage sale last week,

and these fabulous stencils from Funky Junk's Old Sign Stencils arrived in the mail,
buffalo check and plaid stencils from old sign stencils
well I knew the two were meant to meet each other.

(Disclosure--I was given free product to try and share, but the opinions are totally my own!)

I am not sure about the history of the table--I think it was made recently (as in the past 20 years), but from old wood.  There are square nails in the top and the table was assembled with nails.  But, it was rough and I am sure hard to dust in the house, so I know it need a new life.

I lightly sanded it and then taped off a square in the middle to paint red. I have the larger buffalo check stencil so I figured out what size I need for an 8x8 board (because that is the size of a checkerboard) and taped that size.

I also painted the apron and legs red and added an angled board to make the table a little more steady.

The stencil feels a little magical when you use it.  It just turns out so good and looks amazing.  Donna's stencils are such a nice quality--they will last for years if you take care of them.  I have a friend who ordered a smaller stencil online from another company--she was pretty unhappy with it.  I also got the plaid stencil from Old Sign Stencils and I will be playing with it today!

I did a little sanding and stained over everything with Minwax's Early American stain.
The table was added to my cabin display (See HERE).  What can I stencil next?
