Make a Cozy Light With Thrift Store Find and Fairy Lights

When I spied this yarn spinner at the thrift store for $3.99, I knew I had to grab it.

I had a few different ideas for it, but as I played with opening and closing it (like an umbrella) I decided it needed to become a light.

Fairy Lights with Remote Control
I played with idea of drilling out the center piece on the end to add a single hanging light (like the one I made HERE), but decided that wasn't going to work. Fairy lights were the easy answer. I got these HERE and I love that they come with a remote with EIGHT different modes. We can go full on disco if we want with a strobe light effect.

Because the yarn spinner is meant to be used with the other end up, I used some double stick scotch tape under the mechanism that expands and contracts the spinner. I wrapped the lights around the different crisscross parts.

I hung the yarn spinner light from the shelf I just put up in my TV room. It adds a nice glow to this corner, as I don't like watching TV in the complete dark. The remote control works great and the fairy lights give us the perfect amount of light.  Other fun things to look for to use fairy lights with to make a light include embroidery hoops, baskets, old tins, colanders, etc.

  1. I would never have known what that thing was! Certainly a good way to repurpose!
