Who is ready for spring? As I write this, there is a good 6-8 inches of snow from a storm last night and it is supposed to be below zero for the next four nights--23 below zero tomorrow night. So, yes, I am ready for spring and warmer days. I decided it was time to put away the last of the winter decor and valentine stuff away and start adding a little green and spring, hoping to manifest it. Today's DIY started with a beaded seat cover from the thrift store.
If you ever see these at a thrift store, grab them. This one was $4 and I ended up with hundreds of beads. If you do not have a beaded seat cover, you can of course use any wood beads from a craft store. You do want a smaller size, these were about the size of a fingernail. Cut the seat cover apart.
Similar to the heart I made for Valentine's Day (HERE), I decided to make a lucky shamrock for Saint Patrick's Day.
Using three 14" sixteen guage wire pieces I shaped three shamrock petals or hearts.
I used 16 beads on the middle heart or leaf and 15 beads on the two side petals, placing 7 beads on the sides that would touch the middle petal. Twist the wire at the bottom of the heart.
I "tied the three hearts or leaves together in the back by twisting them together. cut the excess wire.
I made a stem with five beads, knotting one bead on to the bottom. I added this by twisting it to the middle wire bundle.
Now, as you can see, the beads have a shabby look. If I had some paint stripper at home or some easy off oven cleaner, I might have stripped them to a natural wood. But, since I did not and I am hibernating, I decided to make this a golden shamrock and use some antique gold Rub-n-Buff. (And yes, my toothpaste tube does look like this tube of Rub-n-Buff.)
I made a green tassel from some green jute. I wasn't sure where I wanted to add it, but decided I liked it at the top.
A fun, holiday tassel is cute hanging on a wreath, on a doorknob, in a window, on a dresser knob. I chose to hang it in the same spot where I hung the heart one, on my blanket ladder.
This metal ladder is an old ladder from an old school slide. It is perfect in our schoolhouse and leans against our library loft and holds blankets.
