After about an hour of degreasing and scraping old, stuck on oil, I painted it with Annie Sloan Decorative Chalk Paint in Emperor's Silk. This red really is the perfect red and usually only takes one coat!
I built a little stand or shelf for the cabinet,
and painted the first aid white cross on it and finished with a glossy coat of urethane.
I see it as a fun "First Aid emergency medicine cabinet", i.e. liquor cabinet.
But, it would work equally as well in a bathroom as a real medicine cabinet.
It covered really well. I used the same color to touch up my husbands 50 year old fire truck. I was a little afraid but you can't even tell where I used the paint.
ReplyDeleteLove what you have done with the old piece. Looks great! :)
ReplyDeleteGood for you seeing the potential in the awesome old cabinet. Wonderful save, it looks so nice now. Love the stand under it also. Had to print this out so maybe my hubs could make a stand out of pallet wood we have. They both look great and what handy pieces both of them. Happy Weekend
ReplyDeleteI think I am going to have a beer emergency tonight!
