Hello and happy thrifty Thursday! I am having so much fun hunting for thrift store finds to upcycle for my new Thrifty Thursday posts.
This week's thrift store makeover starts with a vintage, silver-plate, casserole carrier. These are an easy to find thrift store item and are always inexpensive because they are typically the carrier only, without the casserole dish. They come in all shapes and sizes--I used a rectangular carrier for this project.
I found a piece of reclaimed, fir that exactly fit the casserole carrier width. I cut it to length and traced the inside rounded corners of the carrier on to my piece of wood. I used a jigsaw to cut the corners. I made sure the piece fit securely in the silver carrier and then sanded and stained the wood using Special Walnut stain from Minwax.
I secured the wood piece with screws, using two 1" screws per each side. I dabbed a little copper and silver paint over the screw heads to help hide them.
I waxed the wood with coconut oil which is food safe and works well to protect and bring out the natural beauty of the wood.
I love the contrast between the elegant and detailed casserole carrier and the rustic, reclaimed wood. Now, to convince hubby I need breakfast in bed...
PLEASE PIN ME!
I love it!!! Its so my style! I've never seen one of those but if I do you can be sure I'll grab it now! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I find them frequently, although the round and square ones are more plentiful. I have made small bulletin boards out of those.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great way to re-use that piece, Becky...it has a wonderful modern look to it now! Pinning!
