After Christmas I knew I wanted something different for my gallery wall, but I wasn't sure what. I wanted something a little more casual and wanted to be able to change it up easily. I decided a few picture ledges would be perfect .
These are a very easy build
I started with three eight foot 1" x 4" trim boards. I ripped one down the middle. I cut the boards for one shelf 5 1/2 feet long, which left 2 1/2 feet for the other board.
I set the bottom shelf board on top of the back board to make an L and screwed in from the bottom of the shelf into the bottom edge of the back board.
I then glued and used the nail gun to attach the board I ripped down to the front of the L shaped ledge. I stained the ledges with early American Minwax stain.
I secured the ledges to the wall by drilling through the back board and making sure I drilled into studs. I like that I can layer pictures and other items on the ledges and that I can change them up.
I have a 1929 school map also on the wall, an original 1898 pencil drawing of our town, and I added different mirrors to reflect the light from the windows on the opposite wall. A few original marquee L's for our last name finished the wall.
See my wall sconces HERE.
Love the picture ledges! I put some of these up along our stair well to make it easier to move family photos around...the kids keep growing. Picture ledges make is so easy to shake up wall decor.
ReplyDeleteHow absolutely fun that you have an original pencil drawing map of your town! So cool!
Thank you! Yes, I think I am going to really enjoy them, not sure why I haven't made some sooner. We love this pencil drawing, the previous owners of our old schoolhouse left it here for us.
DeleteI really love this look! I've been tiring of my gallery walls and I love how your ledges are neat and easily changed! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, I like this layered look better than everything in an exact and precise location. Scattered casual definitely better fits my personality!
DeleteI like those too - actually, Fixer Upper last night had these too.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Funny, I didn't see last night's episode, will need to look for it.
