I've always believed we are blessed to be a blessing. I am blessed in many ways, one which is I am GIVEN beautiful, reclaimed barnwood scraps and pieces from a friend who is a cabinet maker. And because I am, I love to be able to use some of that wood to create items to donate to worthy auctions and causes.
One such cause is our local YMCA. My husband serves on the Y board and we have been very impressed with EVERYTHING they do for the children and families in our community.
Tomorrow is the annual auction and dinner to help raise money for the many YMCA programs and outreach. I made this six foot bar for the event.
Hubby helped with some of the muscle, mostly because I had a sore right shoulder so doing things like drilling KREG Jig holes (affiliate link-- BUY HERE) hurt it. We used 4" x 4" fence posts for the corners of the bar and reclaimed 2" x 4"s (and by reclaimed, I mean someone was throwing them out and we salvaged them) to build the base of the bar. The kreg jig holes were drilled into the 2" x 4"s to attach them to the fence posts.
I added two shelf brace boards on the inside of the bar frame and used shorter, reclaimed barnwood boards to create a middle and bottom shelf. There is plenty of room on these shelves for bar glassware, liquor and mixer bottles, and even space for a trash can.
I then glued and nailed gunned lovely barnwood boards, all left in their natural state, to the front and sides of the bar. I placed a hardwood 1" x 4" board across the bottom of the bar front and sides. I used hardwood because I am sure feet will rest on this and a softer wood will break away.
Three, lovely chunky reclaimed boards created the bar top. I love the square peg that is still in this piece. I also pulled a large square nail out of this board.
I made a wine glass holder from trim boards and attached a $1.50 thrift store wine rack (that I stained) to the middle shelf. I bottle opener and hook for a bar towel finish the back of the bar.
Helsman spar urethane finished the bar. I did sand a bit to get rid of splinters, but wanted to leave as much lovely patina on the wood as possible.
I hope it fetches a good price and helps a great organization!
Gorgeous! I love the splash of red on the front.
