Well, I am pretty sure this is a first (I know it is for me): a thrift store foot massager becomes casual boho decor.
I have seen these foot massagers many times at the thrift store. This week I had and aha moment when I saw one and realized the wood beads would be perfect for crafting. For $2 I got 33 beads. Wood beads this size cost 50 cents to a dollar EACH if bought brand new.
I took the foot massager apart using a reverse clamp to push it apart and used some of the beads to make a casual, boho garland.
I then tied these onto a piece of olive green jute. tying a double knot. I tied them tight enough to stay in place, but you can still slide them into position. I used 19 of the rings on a 4.5' piece of jute.
For a cleaner look, cut the jute strings at the knot. I like the extra strings, it gives it a messy, organic look. Slide the rings the desired space apart.
I added an olive green jute tassel on one end.
I hung this garland in my front entryway, tacking it to the wood shelf with tacks.
I love the casual look of it draped on half of the shelf.
It would be cute draped over a window or door, stretched out down a table runner and around a centerpiece, on a bookshelf, or wrapped around a wreath. You can add color by tie the rings onto yarn or tying fabric strips onto the garland.
The thrift store tip or lesson for today is to remember to look at items for their parts, not just for their intended use. Tune in tomorrow (or Saturday) for another foot massager project.
