Link Up!

Beyond The Picket Fence

Oh, I hope you all are back for my Under $100 linky party. And I hope even more of you join. I truly loved all of last week's ideas and I hope you found something great too.

Here is idea #10 from me. Anything can become art if you put it in a shadow box. To make this quick shadow box I used two frames that were different sizes and glued them together. Then I painted them, sanded and stained them. Glue the glass for the top frame around the edge and pop it into place. Cover the cardboard frame from the largest frame with fabric, and glue your object on the fabric. You can do this with three frames too, of graduating sizes. The silverware was my grandparent's.

Ok, on your mark, get set, go. Link up and show us those great under $100 projects.

Under $100 Linky Rules:

1. Please include a description in your link post.
2. Only post an idea that cost $100 or less--it would be great if you tell us the cost of your project, but not a must.
3. Please link to the specific post, not to your blog.
4. Please grab my 100 ideas under $100 button on the side bar and include it in your post so people can find us.
5. Check and make sure your link works--I often click on people's links and they don't work. If it doesn't, try again--you can let me know and I can delete the one that doesn't work--I don't know if you can.

1 Little Step Ladder, 5 BIG Ideas

Idea number 9 is a simple step ladder. I picked this one up for $3 at the thrift store. I painted green, cream, and blue on it, wiped it with some walnut stain, and added the cricut numbers.
Here is the fun part, deciding where to use it. It looks great in a living room as a decorative piece.
How about in a kid's room for stuffed animals?
It would be great in a bathroom. Notice the reading material hanging off the back ladder rung.
What about in the guest room holding pictures?
And my favorite, in the kitchen as a wine holder. If you use it this way either sand indentations in the back rungs to hold wine more securely or cover the backs rungs with the grip shelf liner. That's a wine opener on top--looks a little funny from this angle.

Did you see this fabulous hall tree at Attic Rat? Isn't that color divine?
And how about this remake for glass mugs at Snowman Hill? I never knew Stayz On ink was permanent on glass.
Here is a great use for those rusty cheese graters at The Lemon Cottage.
And I bet I will have one of these made by the end of the week from A Very Blessed Nest.
And the winner of the coasters is Molly from Toile in the Family. Congratulations Molly and thanks for sharing your great buffet.

Paper a Wall, "Tablecloth" a Window

Ideas 6, 7, and 8 come from my daughter's girly, bohemian room.

A couple of scrapbook paper "books" and some border wall paper paste and you have a fun and funky wall. I had intended to leave more open spots, places where the wall color (blue) showed through, but it didn't work that way. I used some chipboard letters to spell out words such as read, play, love, dream, joy (my daughter's middle name). I spent about $35 on this wall.
The second idea here is the $3 thrift store table cloth turned curtain. I used tacks to attach it near the ceiling.
And idea #8 is the holdback for the curtain. I am sure you have seen silverware used this way. We added some ribbons and Christmas garland crystals to the fork for a little extra bling.
I have a few more projects to show you from her room soon. Thanks to those who linked up for my first linky party--you can still join the fun and have a chance to win a set of felt coasters--see the post below.

Oh, and Happy birthday to my OLDER sister if you are reading this--I love you!

My First Linky Party--Please Join Me!

Thanks for joining me for my 1st Linky Party. I have a prize for one of you for joining--I will tell you about that in a minute. Why have a linky party? Because you can go to one blog and find several great ideas in one location, it brings like minded people together, and helps increase blog visits. And, I will feature some of your projects on Monday, which will bring more people to your blog.

Beyond The Picket Fence

I decided that this blogging year would include my sharing 100 ideas under $100 (I love that magazine). And then it dawned on me that you all have wonderful ideas under $100 too, and I wanted to see them, thus a linky party. I plan on hosting one every Thursday, so tell your bloggin' friends to join the fun.

Rules, yes there are a few rules, I am a teacher after all.

I am sharing a simple idea--cost maybe $2-$3 and doesn't involve junk, unusual for me. My sister needed new coasters. I made her some five years ago, decoupaged tiles. She has since changed her decor and has also mentioned that the problem with the tile coasters is that when your glass sweats the coaster doesn't absorb the moisture.
Last night I pulled out some felt and came up with these. They are 3 layers of felt. I used chalk to draw the leaf shapes on the top piece and then cut them out. I sewed around the edges first and then around the leaf shapes. And I have a set for one of you who links up for my first party. I will draw a name on Monday and ask what colors you want. So thanks for joining me--I can't wait to see what you have to share.

Wooly Heart Tutorial

Project 4 is quick and easy and will cost about $3. I started with this wool sweater from the thrift store. I washed it in hot water and dried it in the dryer.
Next I cut strips from the sweater and cut those into squares. I am saving the patterned part of the sweater for another project.
I shaped a heart (size about 5 x 6 inches) out of wire. I didn't have very heavy gauge wire, this is 19 gauge so I doubled it up. I wire hanger would work, but I have a "NO WIRE HANGERS!" rule.
Thread the wool squares onto the wire. If it is doubled up, thread it onto the closed wire end.
When the heart is full, twist the wire ends together.
I added a ribbon and voila--except the sweater washing, the project took about 20 minutes.

Clip That Clutter

Clipboards are a great organizational tool, just ask any coach, and project #3 is an easy way to clean up some paper clutter. After decoupaging scrapbook paper on thrift -store purchased clipboards (75 cents each) and rubbing some stain on them, I hot glued old scrabble letters on to further help the organizational process. These are a great place to clip bills, school notices, book orders, appointment cards, etc. At the end of the week, the "this week" one should be empty and ready for items from the "this month" board to be moved over.

Oh, and what is this button about?

Washer Wow!

Look at what I won from Holly at Homebody. I love them--4 different sides to choose from. I wore the necklace short this day (nap hair going on--fighting a cold), but can use it as a long pendant style necklace too. She shows you how to make them here. Thanks Holly!

Numerical Order

Ok, you are right, these numbers aren't in any order. but, hopefully a new bulletin board will help to keep things in order this year. For idea #2 I made this bulletin board. I painted the frame when I painted the frames for the maps. I used a little less brown. Chunky frames like this without glass are plentiful at thrift stores. I picked this one up for $1.

I also always find bulletin boards at thrift stores and usually buy them for a couple bucks on half prices days. Usually I don't care too much about their condition because I cover them with fabric. for this project you do need one in a little better shape. There is a line across this one that I didn't see until I spray painted it, but decide that it is ok because it will have notes on it.
I spray painted the bulletin board (that I cut to size with an exacto knife) with a light green paint, a couple coats. When it was dry I stuck on the different numbers that I cut out with my Cricut. No Cricut? No problem--there are lots of number stickers at craft stores and even at Wal-Mart. I spray painted brown on top and peeled off the numbers when the paint was dry, popped the board into the frame, and used a little hot glue on the back to make sure it stayed. Oh--and I spray painted some tacks the light green color, silver just wasn't going to do.

Gather Love

My wish for you this new year is that you gather love in your life. I pray that you know the pure and perfect love of Jesus--love that never lets you down, never judges, always forgives. I also hope that you gather the love of those around you, family, friends, co-workers, neighbors. Of course to gather it, you have to give it--so this year love those around you a little more, with patience and kindness.

P.S. This is the little suitcase I found. For those of you who asked, I didn't worry about getting the smell out--it is small so it won't hold much and it is for decorative purposes. I did spray febreeze in there and threw a dryer sheet in there too.
