12 Days of Christmas, Day 2, Scrap Wood Stocking Hanger

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care...wait, you say you have no fireplace and have no place to hang the stockings with care? Never fear, there is a simple solution that you can make that even Santa will adore.

All you need is some scrap wood cut to various lengths (8-12 inches work well).  Cut as many pieces as you need for hooks, i.e. if you want 5 hooks cut 5 pieces of wood.  You can put skinnier pieces of wood in between to space the hooks out more, but I did not on this one.

Attach the boards to each other with a piece of wood screwed into the the back.  Add heavy duty D rings for hanging.

I painted the boards in green and red, stencilled the MERRY and hand wrote the Christmas.

Screw white hooks to the bottom of each board and you have a fun coat hook perfect for any stocking.

  9. What did you use to paint the word Christmas so smoothly?
I have tried reverse vinyl- FAIL it was too small to read
I have tried outlining and filling it in with paint marker- FAIL it doesn't come out smooth like a pen and looks very choppy
Getting frustrated! I've never painted a sign and want to figure this out!
    ANYONE PLEASE ADVISE....

    1. Have you tried acrylic paint and a small artist paint brush? You could lightly use a pencil to mark the words and then trace over the paint with a liner brush. When that is dry, fill in the letters with paint using the small brush. Hope this works for you! I use this technique often usually with great results.

  11. Oh wow...Thank you! I have a large family and have made stockings for us all...16 stockings and more to follow makes the mantel look cluttered and pretty heavy. I'm so grateful for this idea! Can't wait to make one! Whoohoo!
