Well there's an attention grabbing title...or not. But sometimes you just have to say it like it is, and cow urine it part of what this is.
I told you last week HERE about the lovely reclaimed oak I have. I made a simple tray with a chunk of it.
It is cracked, but oh so beautiful and heavy. But, here is something else you probably didn't know about reclaimed barn wood: it often has parts that have turned pink from the cow urine. People call it "cow piss" wood--but that is a word I do not like so I prefer cow urine or pee. See the pink on this tray I made?
I have sanded and sealed it with Annie Sloan wax (which is food safe) and coconut oil and would have absolutely no qualms about serving food on it. My family is not so sure--phoey, I am sure I have fed them worse things.
I added some leather belt handles.
I love the beauty of this wood--cow pee and all!
I never heard that cow pee turns wood pink - ya learn something new everyday. That turned out great tho. How about "cow tinky?" LOL!
ReplyDeleteyour title grabbed my attention for sure! I grew up on a ranch with horses and cows but never new the pink thing!
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful wood pee stain and all. The tray turned out gorgeous and what beautiful shots.
ReplyDeleteI have definitely learn something new today....lol The tray is gorgeous!! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI grew up ranching, and have never heard about this! Learn something new every day. For the record, I would have stopped by anyway, but the title sure made me stop and giggle before I even clicked :)
ReplyDeleteGod works in mysterious and beautiful ways. I mean who else would color wood pink, for us? TeeTee Wood sounds kinda exotic, me thinks. If many of the country girls didn't know this little bit of cow pee wood farming trivia, this city girl certainly wouldn't know. Love your Tray!!
ReplyDeleteI grew up with a grandmother who was always making something out of old wood and she has a headboard that had pink streaks all over it. When we would ask how she made those streaks she would tell us it was her secret special solution. I was an adult before I knew what her secret solution was and we all got a good laugh out of that. lol
ReplyDeleteSo I learned something today. How about that? Cow urine wood. The pink is pretty! Urine is sterile is it not? No problem!
