I am a big believer in using what you have to decorate with because it makes your decor unique and personal and affordable!
After finding a few more wood levels at the thrift store last week to add to my collection, I decided it was time to actually use the levels for something other than dust collectors.
After adding tin to my wall space above my kitchen cupboards, I knew I needed SOMETHING above my French doors. It took me a bit to decide what I wanted on the wall. I didn't want a sign with words, I already have plenty of those. I didn't want typical art because that is a challenge to see above a door. Ding, ding, ding--the old, wood levels would be a perfect addition for the rustic, industrial, farmhouse look I am going for.
I wanted something with some warmth (the wood), some height (4 rows worth achieved that, and something unique.
I cleaned up the levels and then used Wise Owl's furniture salve on them to bring out the beauty of the wood. I love this stuff--works great on wood, leather, beards... If you can't find it locally, you can get it from my friend Tina HERE.
I hung the levels using Command Adhesive Strips on the lightweight ones and nails for the heavier ones. You would think it would be easy to hang the levels level, but I couldn't always see the bubble and some of them are broken, but I think I got it right.
I love how all of my DIY projects are coming together in my kitchen. See links below for the how-to's on these farmhouse kitchen ideas in the picture.
Other fun, unexpected things to hang on a wall: architectural pieces--think chair parts, stair spindles, old books, empty frames, plates, wood bowls, wine bottles and/or corks, trivets, and any collection you love.
Now that is different! I never would have thought of levels!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had your eye!!! I try my best to think of ways to repurpose things but I just don't have that foresight. At least I can be a voyeur and get ideas from you...LOL!!!
