Holiday House Tour

Welcome to my Christmas House Tour 2020. This year I am linking up at Jennifer Rizzo's Holiday House Walk Tour Linky Party 2020. For TEN years now Jenn has been sharing wonderful holiday home tours. I look forward to this event every year and always curl up with my laptop and a cup of tea to slowly peruse each home shared. I often wish I could crawl into the pictures to sit down and enjoy each home a little more.

A new home in a new state means all kinds of new Christmas ideas and decor for me this year. It has been fun and challenging to come up with new things for a home that is much smaller than my home in Montana.

 I only brought about half of my Christmas decorations with me (my son and roommates are renting our Montana home so we still have items stored there). My goal this year was to use the supplies I had on hand or items I could forage and to create things that would not involve me having to add another Christmas tote to store. My theme for the year is natural boho, using whites, and tans, and greens.

I live in Northern Idaho now and pine trees are plentiful. An afternoon walk on a cross country ski trail yielded a trash bag full of FIVE different types of pine branches--cedar, douglas fir, hemlock, white pine, and ponderosa pine. I used these to make a garland for my mantel and wreathes for my porch.

I also tucked bits and pieces of pine throughout my home--on shelves and windowsills, in bowls and buckets. I also have gathered and used pinecones that we collected to use as fire starters.

I made new stockings in my new color scheme, I will share more on these later in the week. I made the stockings from thrift store clothes and linens.

I picked rosehips and strung them to dry. They hang along with a wood bead garland on the mantel. I had high hopes of stinging enough for the Christmas tree, but that didn't happen. I will pull the rose hips off the string after the holidays and steep them in hot water for tea.

Snowflakes created on embroidery hoops, tassels hung on candlesticks complete the mantel.

I added some pine to the level shelf in my entryway. 

A conveyer belt metal bucket holds candy canes for guests and the cutest, tiniest pair of ice skates hang on a coat hook.

Our Christmas tree has simple, handmade decorations. I made a new tree skirt from a drop cloth and will share more on that later.

Jute strings hot glued to two pinecones turned my dining room light into a pine cone chandelier.

An advent centerpiece was put together with household items and foraged branches.

A picture ledge and old metal shelf also got more pine, a stenciled picture (more to come on that), a nativity set.

I added a little Christmas to the kitchen, fresh pine, a tree cutting board.

And, the essential hot cocoa station.

On the front porch I used more red. I made wreaths for the front door and windows. The red and greens are fun with our bright yellow door.

The red, wool Pendleton blanket is a $3 thrift store find. 

On the other end of the porch sits a little, green wagon. A fresh tree with battery operated twinkle lights sits in a pinecone filled basket on the wagon. Ice skates hang from a picket fence, and a lantern sits on a feedsack.

Our new home feels cozy, and warm and happy with its natural boho Christmas decor.
