To buy or not to buy, that is often the question at the thrift store.
This little reproduction, primitive, wood, spice box is one of those items that I questioned. On the negative side, it screamed early 90's country primitive--I half expected to find apples or hearts on it. On the plus side, it is sturdy, real wood, would provide a bit of storage for small items, and I had an idea of how I could upcycle it.

Using the HERB stencil from Funky Junk's Old Sign Stencils (SEE IT HERE) I stenciled HERBS down the side with white paint. When it was dry, I sand it quite a bit, trying to achieve a more primitive look.
I only stenciled HERBS on just one side because that was the look I liked. I think it gave it a fresh look and purpose.
I used stain over all of the outside. I applied some coconut oil inside the drawers so that they would be food safe. It works well hanging in the kitchen for dry, bagged, bulk spices. It also looks nice sitting on a counter.
It could be used for jewelry or small craft supplies. I will be selling it or using it in our AIR BNB we are working on.
You totally transformed a very ugly piece into a delightful new piece with purpose! I love it!
